June 1, 2020

Good morning Division 6! Happy Monday!  I hope you guys enjoyed the weekend even though it was raining.  Our CLASS MEETING will be on WEDNESDAY from 11:00 to 11:30. During our CLASSROOM MEETING, I want you to discuss one (or more) aspect of your culture.  It can be about a favourite food, holiday, or celebration.  This will relate to our upcoming Social Studies/Career Education (SS/CE) assignment.  You’ll learn more about that in today’s schedule. Here is today’s schedule:

  • PE WITH JOE or JUST DANCE videos – Choose between PE WITH JOE or choosing JUST DANCE videos. If you have some other exercise that you found online, then do that. Exercising every day is important to your overall health.  We’re going to increase our time for PE WITH JOE or the JUST DANCE videos up to 30 minutes.  Try your best to get your 30 minutes of exercise every morning.  This is part of our regular routine. Drink plenty of water and take breaks when needed.
  • RAZ KIDS – This week, I want you to do 30 minutes of RAZ KIDS. Try your best not to go over the 30 minutes that I ask.
  • POETRY – This week, I’ve uploaded a POETRY PPT PROJECT that I want you to work on. You will be creating a PPT based on the poems that you have learned:  acrostic, alliteration creature, cinquain, haiku, and limerick.  Read the instructions for the PPT on MS TEAMS.  The due date is FRIDAY, JUNE 12TH.  If you need more time to complete it, that’s okay. Have fun creating it!
  • MATH – I want you to continue with IXL this week. I want you to do the questions to 30 minutes.  Grade 4s, I want you to do the questions for ADD AND SUBTRACT DECIMALS:  WORD PROBLEMS.  Grade 5s, I want you to do the questions for CHOOSE DECIMALS WITH A PARTICULAR SUM OR DIFFERENCE.  These questions should be review right now.  If you make any mistakes, read the corrections carefully.  If, you need to review how to do addition or subtraction with decimals, review the following video on youtube:
    • MATH ANTICS – DECIMAL ARITHMETIC (type in your internet browser the following):
    • MATH – I also want you to play the games on COOL MATH 4 KIDS for 20 minutes. Play the addition and subtraction games for 10 minutes.  Then play the multiplication and division games for another 10 minutes.

I’ve uploaded a new article that I want you to read on MS TEAMS under the CLASS MATERIALS folder.  Click into the CLASS MATERIALS folder and then click into the SCIENCE folder – then you should find the article ALL ABOUT THE DESERT BIOMES.  I want you to read the article and answer the questions at the end of the article.  All of the answers to the questions will be from the article.  Upload your answers on MS TEAMS. Remember to use the reading strategies that we have learned this year by previewing the text features:
      • Preview the headings and subheadings to get an idea of what will be included in the article
      • Look at the key words, so that you know what new words you will be learning before you read the article
      • Review the questions at the end of the article so that you know what questions you need to answer while you read the article
    • SCIENCE – If you have time, you can watch the following videos from Moomoo Math and Science for more background information:

      • SS/CE – So far in SS, we’ve been learning a lot about government policies that discriminated against different groups of people in Canadian history. All of these different groups have unique cultures and belief systems.  In Canada, we live in a multicultural society where there are many different types of cultures.  In our classroom, we have many different cultures.  Celebrating and respecting different cultures is very important.  Learning about different cultures is really important.
      • SS/CE – So, what I am assigning this week is a FAMILY CULTURAL PROJECT. The instructions to the assignment has been uploaded to MS TEAMS.  The due date for the FAMILY CULTURAL PROJECT is FRIDAY, JUNE 12.  Upload your finished project on MS TEAMS.  I have given a variety of options to creating this project, but I think a PPT would be easiest to upload onto MS TEAMS.  This is supposed to be a fun and educational assignment to learn about your own culture.  It is a great time for family discussions and to learn about family history together.  You can call or video chat with grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins to gain more knowledge.
      • PRACTICE TYPING with Dance Mat typing or if you found a website that you like, then you can use it. If you have completed Dance Mat, you can redo it for now. Practice for 20 minutes.  Practicing everyday will help you get better at typing.

      • MS TEAMS – You can use the chat option with each other after you have completed the day’s activities. It will be open at a different time today. It will be open from 10:30 to 1:30.
