Good morning Division 6! Happy Monday!  I hope you guys enjoyed the weekend.  Thanks for everyone that completed the STUDENT THOUGHTS AND REFLECTIONS.  If you need to still complete it, please hand it in and submit it on MS TEAMS by today (if possible).  If you’re having problems with that, you can always email me.  Our CLASS MEETING will be on WEDNESDAY from 11:00 to 11:30 this week and we will continue our discussion on culture. I want you to discuss one (or more) aspect of your culture.  It can be about a favourite food, holiday, or celebration.  This relates to our Social Studies/Career Education (SS/CE) assignment.  Here is today’s schedule:

  • STUDENT THOUGTS AND REFLECTIONS – If you haven’t completed the STUDENT THOUGHTS AND REFLECTIONS, please complete it TODAY. It was due FRIDAY, JUNE 5TH.  It shouldn’t take you too long, but you do need to reflect about the remote/online learning that we have done this term.  Upload your reflections onto MS TEAMS. Thanks.
  • PE WITH JOE or JUST DANCE videos – Choose between PE WITH JOE or choosing JUST DANCE videos. If you have some other exercise that you found online, then do that. Exercising every day is important to your overall health.  We’re going to increase our time for PE WITH JOE or the JUST DANCE videos up to 30 minutes.  Try your best to get your 30 minutes of exercise every morning.  This is part of our regular routine. Drink plenty of water and take breaks when needed.
  • RAZ KIDS – Please do RAZ KIDS for 30 minutes today. Try your best not to go over the 30 minutes that I ask.
  • POETRY – Continue working on your POETRY PPT PROJECT. Create a PPT based on the poems that you have learned:  acrostic, alliteration creature, cinquain, haiku, and limerick.  For the acrostic poem, you can choose whatever topic you want to write about.  For the alliteration creature poem, you can create a new alliteration creature poem, a brand new alliteration poem, or use the same one that you prepared already.  Read the instructions for the PPT on MS TEAMS.  The due date is this FRIDAY, JUNE 12TH. If you need more time to complete it, that’s okay. This is a soft deadline.  Have fun creating it!
  • MATH – I want you to work on IXL this week. Do the questions to 30 minutes. Grade 4s, I want you to do the questions for ADD THREE OR MORE DECIMALS:  WORD PROBLEMS.  Grade 5s, I want you to do the questions for ESTIMATE SUMS AND DIFFERENCES OF DECIMALS.  If you make any mistakes, read the corrections carefully. Grade 4s, for more background information, I’ve added a video for you about adding and subtracting decimals in word problems:
    • ADDING AND SUBTRACTING DECIMALS WORD PROBLEMS | DECIMALS | PRE-ALGEBRA | KHAN ACADEMY (copy and paste or type in your internet browser the following):
    • Grade 5s, I’ve added the following video: GRADE 5 MATH #3.7, ESTIMATE DECIMAL SUMS AND DIFFERENCES (copy and paste or type in your internet browser the following):
    • MATH – I also want you to play the games on COOL MATH 4 KIDS for 20 minutes. Play the addition and subtraction games for 10 minutes.  Then play the multiplication and division games for another 10 minutes.
    • SCIENCE – This week, we are continuing our look into biomes and focusing on the TUNDRA BIOMES. I’ve uploaded a new article that I want you to read on MS TEAMS under the CLASS MATERIALS folder.  Click into the CLASS MATERIALS folder and then click into the SCIENCE folder – then you should find the article ALL ABOUT THE TUNDRA BIOMES.  I want you to read the article and answer the questions at the end of the article.  All of the answers to the questions will be from the article.  Upload your answers on MS TEAMS. Remember to use the reading strategies that we have learned this year by previewing the text features:
      • Preview the headings and subheadings to get an idea of what will be included in the article
      • Look at the key words, so that you know what new words you will be learning before you read the article
      • Review the questions at the end of the article so that you know what questions you need to answer while you read the article
    • SCIENCE – If you have time, you can watch the following videos from Moomoo Math and Science for more background information:
      • THE TUNDRA BIOME FACTS (type in your internet browser the following):
      • THE TUNDRA – BIOMES OF THE WORLD (type in your internet browser the following):
      • SS/CE – So far in SS, we’ve been learning a lot about government policies that discriminated against different groups of people in Canadian history. All of these different groups have unique cultures and belief systems.  In Canada, we live in a multicultural society where there are many different types of cultures.  In our classroom, we have many different cultures.  Celebrating and respecting different cultures is very important.  Learning about different cultures is really important.
      • SS/CE – Continue working on your FAMILY CULTURAL PROJECT. The instructions to the assignment have been uploaded to MS TEAMS.  The due date for the FAMILY CULTURAL PROJECT is this FRIDAY, JUNE 12.  Upload your finished project on MS TEAMS.  I have given a variety of options to creating this project, but I think a PPT would be easiest to upload onto MS TEAMS.  This is supposed to be a fun and educational assignment to learn about your own culture.  It is a great time for family discussions and to learn about family history together.  You can call or video chat with grandparents, uncles, aunts, and cousins to gain more knowledge if possible. Please do not rush through this project.
      • PRACTICE TYPING with Dance Mat typing or if you found a website that you like, then you can use it. If you have completed Dance Mat, you can redo it for now. Practice for 20 minutes.  Practicing everyday will help you get better at typing.
      • MUSIC – Please remember to check Fletcher’s blog for updates. Her blog is on the Suncrest website at https://sd41blogs.ca/fletcherp/
      • MS TEAMS – You can use the chat option with each other after you have completed the day’s activities. It will be open at a different time today. It will be open from 10:30 to 1:30. I will be available to talk to you guys if you have any questions with any assignments.  Or if you just feel like chatting with me, that’s okay too.  Remember, this week’s CLASS MEETING will be a discussion about an aspect of your culture.

That’s all for today.  See you guys tomorrow!
