October Post

Hello everyone,

September is nearly over and we have finished the first month of the 2024-2025 school year.  September was a time to focus on developing positive connections throughout our school.  We have also learned and practiced many routines that will continue throughout the school year.  I have enjoyed getting to know all of the students in class this year and connecting with some families at drop-off and pick-up.

First, I want to welcome Ms. Nicole Lee to Glenwood as our Music teacher.  Our class has Music every Wednesday and Thursday morning from 9:00 – 9:45.  I would also like to welcome Ms. Emily Pearce to our school, as our new Learning Support Services teacher.  Ms. Pearce will be supporting students in all classes.  Additionally, Ms. Pearce will teach Gym to our class on Fridays.  Both Ms. Lee and Ms. Pearce bring a wealth of experience to Glenwood.

At the bottom of this, and all future monthly updates, you will find important dates for the month ahead.  Please scroll to the bottom of this post for upcoming important dates.

West Coast Recess / Lunch Reminder

This is a reminder that students at Glenwood go outside at recess and lunch, even in rainy weather.  Please make sure your child has appropriate outdoor clothing including: boots or waterproof shoes, a rain jacket, and umbrella.  *In the event of severe inclement weather, students will stay inside during recess and lunch.

Fall Leaf Art

This month, we have explored the colour wheel.  We categorized colours as ‘warm’ or ‘cool’ and used those colours to create the Fall Leaf art, pictured above.  Using paper, markers, glue and yarn, we also made ‘mini-me’s’ (see below).

All About Me!

In writing, we have been working on personal narratives and writing about ourselves.  Each week, students are invited to share their writing with the class during ‘Author’s Chair’.  We will continue to practice personal narrative writing and communicating during term 1 and will focus on adding details and writing in complete sentences.

Welcome Conversations

I am looking forward to meeting with parents this Tuesday, Oct. 1st during our Welcome Conversations.  These 10-minute conversations are a time for each teacher and family to to connect at the beginning of the school year.  If you are not able to make your appointment time, please email me to arrange another time.

Teacher-Candidate from UBC

Looking ahead to the month of October, I am excited to share that a teacher-candidate from UBC will be joining our class.  For the first several weeks, the teacher-candidate will be visiting our class every Thursday, observing the classroom structures and routines, and getting to know the staff and students.  We are looking forward to meeting our new TC on Thursday, October 3rd!

Puzzles!

Students in Division 3 have been enjoying building puzzles this month!  The classroom has a small assortment of 100 – 300 piece puzzles.  If your family has any complete children’s puzzles in the 100 – 300 piece range that you are finished with, the class would be happy to receive them.
