Potion Making

We have had so much fun getting messy with potion making! We used primary colours and mixed them together to see what they would make, which has been a great way to start our conversation of primary and secondary colours.

With Halloween around the corner we have been so creative in coming up with potion names and deciding what would happen to someone if they drank it. mwaaahhh ha ha ha ha haaaaa!

Orange Shirt Day & Terry Fox

The week of Orange Shirt Day division 11 started our conversations into indigenous education. We discussed residential schools and how they are much different then the schools we attend today,  we learned some people are Indigenous and some people are Metis, like Terry Fox. We also tried saying a new word, reconciliation.

Division 11 made beading hearts (we learned beading is a popular technique used by Metis people) to add to the schools Orange Shirt Day bulletin board.

Reconciliation is a complicated word for many adults! Our grade 1’s in Division 11 are beginning to have discussion around equality; it is ok to be different, everyone is special and everyone matters! We will continue to have challenging conversations this year, but we will also use these challenging topics to celebrate success!

Stories are Magical

I believe story workshop has many benefits for students to grow and be creative, this is what I have noticed so far this year…

Story Workshop has been a great way for students in the class to be engaged and interacting with their peers.

It has helped many students in class to connect and make new friends.

Story Workshop has also been a way for students to develop their communication skills.

Please ask your child what stories they made, or if they forget, what stories they may see in these pictures!

Fun with Light

We had lots of fun using light to create art. We used artificial light (flashlights) to create shadows of different shapes and painted the background.

There are many different kinds of light now today, but how was our world different when electricity was not invented?
