Shadow Art

This was a very challenging art project. First the little ones had to pick a toy animal they would like to use, then take a flashlight to create the shadow of the toy, trace the shadow, colour the shadow with crayon and paint the outside with water colours. I love how they all turned out and how we were able to work past the challenges of the activity.

We also were inspired to create a shadow zoo during explorations!

Instructional Art

Division 11 has been learning the basics of coding! Here we drew the same picture two times following different directions. Can they guess what they were drawing?

The first time I showed the students all the different shapes they would need to draw (ie. big circle, little circle, curved shapes etc.) and they had to draw by following only verbal instructions (ie. in the middle of your page, draw a big circle). The second time the kids followed the steps with visual instructions only (copying what I drew on the board). At the end they guessed the animal and we had lots of fun seeing how close our pictures looked. 🐭

The Sound of Rain

We had lots of fun learning about sound and sound waves. Below is a video we made when we were exploring sound effects. I encourage you to close your eye as you listen to the video.

What do you hear? what does it sound like? How is the sound being made? Click on the image below!

A couple days after we made this video, the kids in the class wanted to show some of our friends who were away that day, but I could not get the sound to work as we projected the video. So instead they taught the others in the class how to make the sound of a rainstorm by watching themselves on the screen. It is always wonderful to see the kiddos teaching each other! ♥

Please let me know if the video is unable to open.

Mapping the Playground

Over the past couple week, Division 11 and 12 have transformed into explorers! We have been mapping the school grounds. It started with the first and second floor of the building, then we walked around the school to see what other things need to be mapped and then we went outside to map our playground. I am excited to see what they want to explore next!
