Remembrance Day Art

Remembrance Day– As a class we discussed why we take the time to remember those who fought for the freedom and peace we enjoy in Canada today. The students all worked hard to create art that was then made into a beautiful video that was shared at the Remembrance Day Assembly on November 10. We hope you all took the time to think about the sacrifices that have been made by so many soldiers and military personnel over the years that helps to ensure we continue to live in a peaceful country.

CREATIVITY AT WORK in Division 16! We decided to have some fun with two boxes that we received with the pumpkins that were delivered. Together, many of the students, have worked together to create two “cars” that we will use to “drive in” when students are sitting on the carpet. Students may use these cars to read in, relax in or just sit in while they listen!  Here is one of the cars being “test driven” by one of our students!

Signs of Fall- The students have explored the world outside and we noticed that some of the leaves that have fallen are still green while on the ground. This was a good time to ask the students why they thought this would happen, when we had discussed before that the tree pulls all the chlorophyll from the leaves in the fall to store it in its trunk. This helps the tree to survive the cold, dry winter, but in the process, causes the leaves to lose their green colour (given to them from the chlorophyll) and their true colour (reds, browns, yellows, oranges) now shows.  Once the leaves are no longer able to make food from the sun (because they have no chlorophyll left) the tree releases them to the ground. SO….knowing this, then why are there green leaves on the ground?  The students discussed this is because these leaves get knocked down early because of heavy rain, wind, and the occasional animal, before the tree is able to pull the chlorophyll from those leaves, thus causing a loss of chlorophyll for the tree. Cool science!
