Glass Art and a STEM Challenge!

FUSED GLASS ART- Our class learned how to make art ornaments using pieces of coloured glass. Each student was able to choose a shape to create and were given a template to use. Students learned to cut the glass using a tool called a “glass nipper”. Students were able to be creative in the colour choices they made and the organization of those colours in their piece. The teacher, Debbie, collected all of our finished pieces and she took them home to heat them up in a special oven so that the glass melts, or fuses, to form a solid ornament. We are looking forward to seeing how they turned out!

STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Math) Challenge: The students were given a challenge to create the tallest structure using 25 cue cards and tape. They worked in pairs and worked together to come up with an idea, then a plan and then they got to work creating and building and making any necessary adjustments to their plan, as needed. We talked about how to listen to each other, share in the building, use kind words and be supportive of each other.

The students were very good with each other and I heard a lot of positive, supportive comments along the way! Here are the final results!!
