PARENT CORNER

Food & Allergies in our classroom:

  • We have a number of students with severe and life threatening allergies- please avoid sending in food items that may contain peanuts or tree nuts
  • We also have food allergies to green peas (including edamame) and Iogo brand yogurt.  I am asking students to be extra vigilant with hand washing if they eat these food items…PLEASE

Inside Shoes

Please ensure your child has a pair of sneakers or running shoes at school for our Gym time and just in case he/she needs an extra change for some reason.

Please ensure your child keeps a pair of extra clothes (including socks and underwear) on their coatroom hook at school.

Daily Health Check:

Please check this website often to understand and follow the symptoms to look before sending your child to school. Symptoms Check

Home Literacy Program:

  • Students are asked to complete a literacy activity (board game, reading, spelling, writing, physical activity, art, card game, math, etc) for 15 minutes each day (minimum).
  • Each day, if 15 minutes of literacy is completed, a book on the chart (sent home) gets signed by an adult. You only sign ONE book per day even if your child participates in more than 15 min of a literacy activity.
  • After 25 nights, please return the form to Ms. Helfrich and a new chart will be sent home.
  • After 225 nights, students will earn a free book and certificate and will feel great knowing all they have accomplished!

*HEALTHY & SAFETY PROTOCOLS outline the following:

– students are not permitted to share any food or drink items

– students will no longer be able to bring in birthday treats to share with classmates and teachers unless they are individually packaged and commercially prepared.

– “leave with what you brought” will pertain to all snack and lunch items to minimize landfill waste and traffic at trash, recycling and compost stations. All uneaten items, utensils and containers (including juice boxes) will be sent home at the end of each day.

Outdoor Learning and Westcoast Recess:

At Brentwood Park, we believe it is essential that children get outside throughout the day to breathe fresh air and get their bodies moving! We will be spending a lot of time outside this year learning and playing

  • living in Vancouver, we get a ton of rainfall- please ensure your child is dressed for the weather (raincoat, umbrella, rain boots) so they are comfortable, dry and can enjoy their time outside with their friends

Healthy snacks, lunches, and water bottles:

  • I encourage students to bring in healthy snacks and lunch items that will provide energy throughout the day. This helps students to focus and maintain creativity and critical thinking skills.
  • staying hydrated also helps to keep students focused- please send in one or two reuseable water bottles that can be easily refilled throughout the day.

Thank you for your help and continued support!
