April 20-24

Hello students (and families) of Division 4,

I hope this email finds you all well. Parents and students, I would like to thank you for your hard work and flexibility as we figure everything out. Students, I am thankful for your positive attitudes and parents, I am thankful for your support as your child learns how to navigate learning online.

Here’s this week’s schedule of assignments and activities:

Weekly Schedule (Distance Learning) April 20-24

The assignments that must be handed in have a red asterisk next to them; these need to be uploaded to the location specified on the chart by Friday at 9 pm. Please note, no assignments should be emailed to me; if you are unsure where to upload your assignment please post a question in the ‘Questions’ channel of our Teams page. Remember that everything in the ‘must-do’ section is required, the ‘could-do’ and ‘try it out’ sections are optional.

New this week! I will be live on the ‘Check-in’ channel every day from 1-1:30. Students are required to check in with me once per week. During this time, I hope to hear how you’re doing and to answer any questions you may have about the content we’ve been learning/working on. I will keep track of check-ins to ensure everyone is attending at least one check-in each week. You are welcome to pop by anytime between 1 and 1:30 on as many days as you’d like.

Zoom for Class Meetings. The Burnaby School District has received a license for Zoom and I would like us to try using Zoom for at least one of our weekly class meetings. For this week, we will aim to have our Thursday meeting from 11-12 (note the new time!) on Zoom. Please check your email for an invite to the meeting. I would like to remind students to practice good digital citizenship by only commenting in the chat session of our team meetings when necessary and to use full sentences and no text speak (e.g. lol, ur, gr8, etc.).

Check your email. Even though you do not receive emails from me daily, students are expected to check their email at least once per day. I’ve sent emails to numerous students and have not received notification that they have been read. Email is the only way I can message a student confidentially, as the class is able to see everything that is posted on Teams. Email will also be how students receive invites to Zoom and class meetings. For these reasons, it is important that students check their email daily.

All the best for a wonderful week!

Ms. Haskins
