Activities for Tuesday, June 9, 2020: Zoom Math, STEM, Raz Kids

Happy Tuesday, Division 10!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  We will be missing this morning for our next Zoom Math session.  Please have paper with you and a ruler (grade two’s need a ruler).  Here are today’s activities:

1)Zoom Math- grade 3’s-10 AM

-grade 2’s- 11 AM                    See you there 😀

**The assignment will be emailed out once your Zoom session is over.  It will be due Wednesday.

Monday, June 8, 2020: Pro-D Day

Hi there, Division 10!  Today is a Pro-D Day at our school.  Please take the time today to finish up any activities that you need more time with (such as the communication writing activity) and listen to, read, record, and answer questions about the new assignment on Raz Kids that I put up for you last week, if you haven’t done so already.  I would like  you all to listen to the new story that Mrs. Roberts has posted on her blog called “Let’s Talk About Race“.  Once you have listened to the story, have a conversation with Mom and/or Dad about it.  We will talk more about this tomorrow and later this week.  Have a great day!  

Thursday and Friday Activities: June 4 and 5, 2020

Hello, Division 10!  It was great seeing you all on Zoom yesterday.  Please email me your communication writing assignment when you are done it.  Please take your time with the following assignments.  You can use Monday to finish up any incomplete work as it is a Pro-D Day.  Here are the activities for Thursday and Friday:

Thursday, June 4, 2020:

1)Math-Measurement Project:  grade 2’s- centimetre house project

grade 3’s-perimeter vegetable garden project

Please make sure you take your time with this assignment as you will be working on it Thursday and Friday. Do half of it today and finish the rest tomorrow.  Make sure to read the directions carefully and add lots of details and colours as well.  START WITH PENCIL! Plan out your house or vegetable garden first and don’t forget to show your measurements!  The attachments with the instructions, examples, and paper to work on is attached below.

2)Science-Plant Parts We Eat:  follow the directions on the attached activity.  If you don’t have the food items at home, draw and colour the items instead.  Please take a picture of the items and email the page to me before you eat them!  😀  The assignment is below.

Friday, June 5, 2020:

1) May Scrapbook Page–  write out your ideas first on a piece of paper about things you learned in May and your favourite part of the month.  Check for sentence sense, details, capitals, and periods. Then write your good copy on the attachment below.  Make sure to fine line your writing (if you have a black fine tipped marker) and colour the “Magnificent May” words as well. Please email it to me when you are done as I will print it and glue it into your scrapbook for you 🙂

2) “Sports Day” Zoom- 1:15-1:45 PM. *OPTIONAL* Music is during this time at school so I can schedule an extra Zoom session this week 🙂  Make sure to wear your house colours!  We will have a scavenger hunt game and I will give challenges to the house groups to try out over Zoom 🙂  

3)Raz Kids- most of you have a new assignment that I just put up.  Please listen to the story, read it, record yourself reading it, and do the quiz questions.  Thank you!  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Activities for Wednesday, June 3, 2020: Zoom Class Meeting, STEM Challenge, and GoNoodle

Happy Wednesday, Division 10!  I hope you have all had a great week so far.  My apologies again for the issue with Zoom yesterday.  I have kept the password the same (roots) and hopefully that works for everyone today.  Today we will have a Zoom class meeting to talk about how we communicated our learning this year, a Science, Math, Technology, and Math (STEM) challenge, and GoNoodle!  

Here are today’s activities:

1)Zoom Class Meeting– 11 AM.  See you there!  

2)STEM Challenge-Build a Tower!  See the directions in the attachment below.  You also need to write about your plan and what you did to help make your tower!  Please email me a picture of your tower and your writing when you are done.

Activities for Tuesday, June 2, 2020: Zoom Math/Science, Reading, Finish Up

Happy Tuesday, everyone!  I hope you all had an absolutely wonderful Monday.  I sure do miss seeing all of you! I hope you have had a chance to arrange a phone call with a friend, a Zoom chat, or a social distanced play time in the park.  Here are today’s activities:

1)Zoom Math and Science- please bring a ruler if you have one, paper, a pencil, an eraser, and a marker.  We will be going over the parts of the plant and some examples of edible parts that you can eat for each section of the plant.  We will also start looking at measurement using centimetres (Grade 2’s) and continue working with perimeter (Grade 3’s).

2) Read for 20 minutes or if you didn’t do this yesterday, please listen to, read, and answer questions about a new book on Raz Kids

Activities for Monday, June 1, 2020: 321 Video Response, IXL, Raz Kids, and Art

Hi, everyone ! I hope you all had a chance to get out and enjoy the weekend, even though it was a pretty soggy one!  There is a slight change of plans to our weekly schedule:  I will be posting the Monday-Wednesday activities daily, and then the Thursday-Friday activities will be posted on Thursday morning.  If you have any questions about this, please feel free to email me 🙂  We are going to start looking at plants this week for a Science unit.  This week we will be learning about the parts of the plant you can eat, examples of them, and what those parts are called!  Here are today’s activities:

 

1) Science-Parts of the Plant 321 Response– watch the YouTube video *HERE* to learn about some examples of different fruits and vegetables that you can eat that are examples of roots, stems, leaves,  and more!  Then, use the 321 Reading Response sheet to tell me 3 things you learned, 2 questions you have, and 1 thing you found interesting.

The 321 Response sheet is attached below.  Make sure to add details and check for spelling, capitals, and punctuation!  Please email it to me when you are done.

2) IXL grade 2’s are reviewing some things we talked about last week with the calendar and grade three’s are practicing finding the perimeter of different shapes.

3) Raz Kids– choose a new story to listen to, read, and answer the questions about. I will be talking to people tomorrow who haven’t used Raz Kids in a while! 

4)Plant Parts we Eat Directed Drawing see how you do with drawing different plant parts that we eat!  Ms. Fernandez will lead you through the activity on her YouTube channel 🙂

Activities for Friday, May 29, 2020: Zoom Math, Friday Letter, and Reading

Happy Friday, everyone!  I hope you have had a chance to enjoy this glorious weather over the past few days. It has been lovely!  Next week will look a little different: instead of having Zoom sessions on Thursday and Friday, we will have them on Tuesday and Wednesday instead as those (plus Monday) are my online or remote learning days.  I will be available via email if you have any questions.  I will be putting the week’s worth of work up on the class website each Sunday from now on. 

Today’s activities:

1)Zoom Math- grade 2’s-10 AM, grade 3’s-11 AM.  See you there!

2)Friday Letter– grade 2’s should be writing 2 pages, grade 3’s should be writing between 2-3 pages.  Make sure to add details and check your writing for sentence sense, capitals, and periods. Please email this to me when it is done.  It is due Monday, June 1.

3) Read for 20 minutes

4) Go outside for a neighbourhood walk or bike ride.  Make sure to wear sunscreen!

Activities for Thursday, May 28, 2020: Zoom Math, Draw/Write Reflection, and Raz Kids

Hi, everyone ! Happy Thursday!  I hope you have all had a fantastic week so far and have had a chance to get out in the nice weather we have been having.  Today I will be at school for most of the day preparing for next week so our Zoom Math session will be there.  We will be using our class calendar and our prior knowledge to share new and familiar learning concepts.  Here are today’s activities:

1) Zoom Math– 11 AM today!  Be prepared and ready to share! 

2) Draw and Write Reflection– think back to what you have learned about salmon, the Great Bear Rainforest, cedar, and totem poles. You might want to get out previous assignments to help you with this 🙂  Using the worksheets below, choose 2 circles to draw and 2 circles to write in about something important you learned about each circle.  Make sure to add details ! When you are writing, you can add lines to help you share your thoughts.

3) Raz Kids listen to, read, and answer questions about a new story at your level. I will be checking this today and Friday to see how things are going!

Activities for Wednesday, May 27, 2020: Read Aloud and Response with Mrs. Roberts, IXL, Reading

Hi, everyone!  It was great to see you all yesterday at our class meeting on Zoom. I will be reading more of The Philosopher’s Stone tomorrow (and possibly Friday) when we have our math sessions.  We will be looking at different kinds of graphs this week. Today’s activities include a read aloud and response activity with Mrs. Roberts, IXL, and reading.  Have a great day!

Then, tell me about your favourite part of the book, something the book reminds you of (and what kind of connection you are making: text to self, text to text, text to world), and draw a picture of your favourite part.

Activities for Tuesday, May 26, 2020: Number of the Week, Class Zoom, and Reading

Hi there, Division 10!  I hope you all had a lovely Monday ! Did any of you find out what duck’s have as an adaptation that helps them in the water? We can talk about this at today’s Zoom meeting, just remind me 🙂  Don’t forget to return your library books this week!  If you left them in the classroom in your book box I have done this for you 🙂  Here are today’s activities:

1)Number of the Week- grade 2’s: 49, grade 3’s: 317.  Don’t forget to show your regrouping when you add!  Also, see if you can make the number in a way not shown on the sheet as an extra (extension) activity!

2) Zoom Class Meeting with Mrs. Robert’s-  1 PM.  Be ready to share what you think is going on in the book that Mrs. Robert’s reads!  If we have time, I will also read from The Philosopher’s Stone and maybe we can play another round of the Scavenger Hunt too! 

3) Read for 20 minutes. If you haven’t recorded yourself on Raz Kids or didn’t go on yesterday, please do so today.  Make sure to listen to the story, read it a few times, and then answer the quiz questions.  Thank you!
