Week of May 4th – 8th

Week of May 4th – 8th

Division 5,

See Star Wars Activities at the bottom of this post!

We have another fun week ahead of us!

At the end of last week, Zoom invitations were sent out.  You would have received three invitations.  One math group and two read aloud sessions.  Please email me if you have not received the invitations, or the math time I have given you does not work with your schedule.

In math, we have completed 4 lessons in Data Analysis.  Assessments of concepts will be scheduled at a later date.  In addition, we will begin our unit in Geometry with Ms. Short. In the upcoming weeks, in some Zoom sessions, we will have a guest, Ms. Jaltema.  Ms. Jaltema is a retired Burnaby school teacher.  You might remember her in our classroom as a TOC this past year.  Ms. Jaltema will be participating in our Zoom sessions periodically because she will be helping Ms. Short become a classroom teacher.  If you have any concerns or questions about having guest participants, please email me.  Thank you!

We are also starting ADST lessons!  Ms. Araujo and I are working together on some activities and lessons on how to teach you more ADST skills. Try to start lesson 1 this week.  Families, I encourage you to watch the slide shows with your child.

Thank you for submitting all your beautiful artwork and poems!  Keep them coming, and I will compile your works of art to display.

Did you have a chance to enter the BCAITC Student Photo Contest?  It’s not too late.  You can enter to have a chance to win a prize!! Click on the link below for contest details:

    • Complete 1 reader’s response in your BlogFolio (Read a book, is it fiction or non-fiction? What is the title? Who is the author? What was the book about? What did you learn? Did you make any connections? Anything interesting about the book?)
    • Reader’s Response Template
    • Art:
      • Mother’s Day is coming up!  It is on Sunday, May 10th!  Here are more ideas on how to create some gifts to show your appreciation to all the female figures in your life! It can be your mom, sister(s), grandma, aunts, etc.

To show your work, you will need to post it on your BlogFolio.  If you are posting photos or videos, it is best to use your portable devices (smartphones, tablets, or iPads).  If you forgot how to post, you can check out these instructions. I will check your posts regularly and comment on them.  If you need more help with how to post or log on to the programs, ask your family to email me at Shirley.cheung@burnabyschools.ca

Happy Learning!

Ms. Yapp

May the 4th be with you Division 5!
