Week of April 27th – May 1st

Hi Division 5,

It was wonderful talking to many of you last week!  And I can’t wait to continue our virtual class meetings!

Last week, the South Slope Staff made a video to share with all South Slope Families.  Here’s a link to the video if you haven’t had a chance to check it out!  Dear South Slope Families!

I’m so excited for this week! We have many activities planned for you and Ms. Short will join us through our online learning journey.  Some of you might have noticed her comments in your blogFolio already.  She will be providing support with your assignments and start teaching some lessons as well!

Monday, April 27th is a professional day for teachers and administrators at South Slope Elementary.  However, that doesn’t prevent you from continuing your assignments and school work!

This week, we will finish up our lessons on data analysis.  Next week, we will continue to review data analysis and start lessons on geometry.  We will continue on with Matter in science and our weekly spelling lessons.  In addition, we will have social studies lessons and writing lessons.

Thank you for submitting all your beautiful artwork and poems!  Keep them coming, and I will compile your works of art to display.

Also, remember all those tulips and daffodils we planted back in the Fall?  They are growing!!!  Unfortunately, we will not be able to harvest them and gift them to our community seniors this year.  BUT, there is another way we can reach out to our community!!!  There is a photo contest you can enter, and you have a chance to win a prize too!! Click on the link below for contest details:

    • Check out Mrs. Fierro’s Music Blog (Read her instructions on how to keep track of your work)
    • Complete 1 reader’s response in your BlogFolio (Read a book, is it fiction or non-fiction? What is the title? Who is the author? What was the book about? What did you learn? Did you make any connections? Anything interesting about the book?)
    • Reader’s Response Template
    • Art:
      • Mother’s Day is coming up!  It is on Sunday, May 10th!  For the next two weeks, I will put up drawing and craft ideas to help you create some gifts to show your appreciation to all the female figures in your life! It can be your mom, sister(s), grandma, aunts, etc.

To show your work, you will need to post it on your BlogFolio.  If you are posting photos or videos, it is best to use your portable devices (smartphones, tablets, or iPads).  If you forgot how to post, you can check out these instructions. I will check your posts regularly and comment on them.  If you need more help with how to post or log on to the programs, ask your family to email me at Shirley.cheung@burnabyschools.ca

Happy Learning!

Ms. Yapp
