Lesson 1: Study of Mattter

Hi Division 5,

Read the entire post before starting the lesson!

This week, we will be using sources from Scholastic.ca digital resources.

I’d like you to click on the link below. There will be a few steps to go through in order to access the video and article.

http://scholastic.ca/education/free_digital_resources/?eml=CRC/e/20200403////CE_DISTANCELEARNING_TEACHERS_28516///crc/////&ET_CID=20200402_CCE_CRC_DistanceLearning_RET_28516&ET_RID=1185207822

Then go through these steps:

There are two tasks to do after you click on “Study of Matter:

  1.  Watch the video

  2. Read the article

When you are at the article, there are some settings you can use to help with understanding the information.

  • Turn Read Aloud On – this makes your device read the article if you want to listen and read along
  • Look Up a Word – this brings you to a different screen and you can type a word to search the meaning of a word
  • Change my Reading Level 1 2 3 – there are three different reading levels.  You can change the reading level and the text will change slightly to help you understand the content better.

Great!  You’ve finished watching the video and reading the article.  What next?

  • Write and/or draw about you learned and post your work on your BlogFolio.
  • You can use paper, pencil and other writing tools to show your work.  Or, you can create a post and type your work.

Ready to post?

 Title:  Study of Matter

Workspace:  Fill it with information you learned!

What kind of information am I looking for?

  • What did you notice?
  • What did you learn?
  • What questions do you have about matter?
  • In theory, what do the scientists believe were the first two elements of matter in the universe?
  • What are the different states of matter?
  • How can you describe matter?
  • Give an example of a gas, liquid, or solid you can find at home.

Now Post!

Awesome, I will read your post soon and comment in it!

There will be more lessons, so keep checking back to the class blog!
