Dear Parents,

Today, we started off with taking up the run-on sentence homework. Students were tasked to use connecting words or periods in order to correct the sentences.

Then, we started to work on a question from Unit 2, Lesson 3 but didn’t have enough time. We started copying down the Venn Diagram and sorting numbers as such: left side: odd numbers, right side: numbers with a 0 in them, and the overlap in the middle meant it was both an odd number and has a 0 in it. Students in their groups came up with numbers that would fit in each of the categories. We will continue working on this on Monday.

After, students went to Music and had recess and snack.

Following snack, we planned out our Weekend Journals since there is no school tomorrow. Students were tasked with outlining: If you were magically transported into your favourite book (or any book) what adventures would you have?

Students first need to write which book they would transport into in their introduction, then provide 3 adventures they would have inside of the book with details and in separate paragraphs, and then write a conclusion to finish off their piece of writing. This will be due on Monday and students need to complete the Student Checklist before handing in their journals.

Then, students looked at their plan for Day 2 and completed research in partners for their Social Studies projects.

After lunch, we did more coding on iPads. We talked about the expectations between partners and I generated random partners for the students to work with. Students did quite well working together and being considerate of their partner as well as sharing the device/helping. I explained to the students that I am going to mix up groupings this year in order to have students get to know other students and to work on their social skills in getting along with new people. I emphasized again that not everyone in the class has to be their best friend, but they need to be kind, considerate, and respectful to everyone.

Then, we had community time (free time) and then went to the library.

Reminder: Spelling Test is on Thursday, October 28th – next week.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
