Hands On Games

One of best, and the most fun, ways to practice our math skills is with hands on math games. I’ll be posting many of the games we’ve already played in class so everyone should be familiar with them and eager to teach their parents or siblings how to play!
These games will require dice and/or a deck of cards to play, so if you already have them, great! If you’re like most of us and don’t, please try to borrow or buy some to use. Here is a template to make your own dice Paper Dice Template which is also an option. Games will require counters as well, but anything from coins to rocks can be used. Be creative!

Clear+the+Board
Connect Four Addition
DoublesPlusOneBingo
Roll Climb and Slide along with Roll Climb and Slide Sheet
Sink or Swim
Start with your counter on the start bubble. Roll 2 dice and add them together. If the answer is even, move up towards RESCUED, if the answer is odd, move down towards EATEN.

If you don’t have access to a printer, please continue using the online Math Games posted under the MATH tab and I’ve put links to some favourites right under the MATH tab under Math Games!

Think Math is Back!

Every Monday I’ll post a new “answer.”
Remember Division 8, your challenge is to correctly write a word problem that matches the answer in the comment section of the post.
There are as many different correct answers as there are students in our class!
Good luck Grade 3s! I can’t wait to continue to share every week!!
1st answer:
48 students and 2 adults bowling

Spelling Tests

For those families that would like to give a test at the end of the week, here is the paper we used in class Spelling Test Paper as an option. Please also let me know if you’d like me to send you a few Review Words and the Sentences each week. I can quickly email them to you so prying eyes don’t spot them on the blog 🙂 Either leave a comment on this post or send me a quick email and I will start sending them to you!

IXL Achievement

Way to Go Division 8!
You’ve achieved your 1st Certificate of Achievement!
With only 7 students having logged on, you’ve already completed 500 questions! I can’t wait to see your achievements once everyone joins in next week.
Keep up the great work! Click the pic for a closer look.

*It would be ideal if you have a notebook at home to write all your responses in, but just keeping papers that you use together is just as good! You don’t need to send your response to me today, but please keep it.*

Ms. Watt                                                                              Wednesday, April 15th, 2020

This story reminded me of my many trips to Vancouver Island. Ryan, Kennedy and I go on the ferry to Vancouver Island to visit Kennedy’s Grandma and Grandad a few times a year. When the ferry is leaving or returning to Horseshoe Bay, Kennedy loves looking at the thousands of barnacles and mussels on the large posts around the ferries.

The barnacle is just like many of us because we have been staying at home more than we ever have before. I think a lot of us have had times when we felt bored like the barnacle is. Much like the barnacle though, it’s better to be bored than to be out and about like the fish and putting yourself at risk.

Monthly News

Everyone should be really familiar with Monthly News by this time of year.
Below is your first article to work on at home. Remember how we:
1) Read through the article once or twice. I encourage you to read it aloud to someone at home or on the phone with a friend.
2) Read the questions and highlight/underline the answers in the article
3) Record the answers on the answer sheet or a piece of paper (being careful with spelling, capital letters on proper nouns and full sentence answers should start with a capital and end with a period).
Great Bear Rainforest

Mr. Marquis!!

Our wonderful teacher counsellor has hopped in to say hello! Yay! Click on the picture to see his special message to Nelson students.
After watching, please send me 2 things that you have done over the past few weeks to fill someone’s bucket. How have you spread or encouraged kindness when spending more time with your family at home? Remember to use juicy sentences…Who? How? What did you do? Why? How did it make them feel/you feel?
You may write your bucket fillers HERE, write on a piece of paper and take a picture to send to me or write them in an email.
I will compile your wonderful deeds and share them with Mr. Marquis. He’ll be so proud!
