Ban on Bodychecking

Ban on Bodychecking

peewee-hockeyI am looking forward to discussing further Hockey Canada’s decision to ban bodychecking at the Peewee level. During our survey today in class, six of you were ‘pro’ ban and seven were against the ban while the rest of the class was undecided.  To help you form an opinion on the matter, watch this news story which provides more reasons for both sides of the argument.   What are your thoughts now?  Have they changed?  What are the reasons for your thinking?

  1. I still haven’t changed my mind about how a fell about the ban because I think that it is a good decision to ban body-checking because parents pay money for their children to play and now they have to pay even more money because their child has a concussion when they should be playing hockey.

    1. I really like /love your comment about ban on body checking!!!! I ‘ve kind of changed because it makes the game more interesting. I ‘ve moved about 5 medium steps to the do not ban body checking!!!! How about you everyone?

  2. I think it was a good video but I agree with the Regina league as well as Doan Chary because if you take out hitting and full body contact in Peewee and have it in bantam they wont know how to take and give a hit than there will be more injuries, and if they start hitting in Peewee the kids are smaller because their ages are 10-11 and bantam players are ages 13-14

  3. I am thinking about if I should change my choice because before I watched the video I thought that maybe they should ban it maybe not . I thought they should ban it because it’s not okay for little kids to have brain damage when they are young but on the other hand, when the peewee players grow up and play on the bantam they will not be use to body-checking.they also should ban it because their parents have to pay for their hockey lessons and now they have to pay more for the injuries.I still have not made up my mind. It’s so hard to choose.

  4. I still didn’t change my mind, because you could body check alittle but not a lot. Also body checking is part of the game. I kinda disagree and agree at the sametime. And I don’t want them to end up in a hospital, and you can body check but don’t do it hard or they’ll have a cancaution.

  5. I’m not sure whether they should ban bodychecking or not because bodychecking is tradition and it’s more exciting to watch. But if you look at it from a completely different point of view, bodychecking can also be bad because some innocent kid our age can get a head trauma or a concussion just because he landed on his head in the rink.Bodychecking can be good or bad.

  6. I think they should ban bodycheck because it is not cool when some kid got a concussion just because someone bodycheck him. For bantam, I think they should take bodycheck a little and don’t hit the player hard . By the way I found out this vote on Costco magazine “73 percent yes, 23 percent no” and you should check out this website about concussion: http://kidshealth.org/kid/ill_injure/aches/concussion.html
