Wanted: Parent Volunteers

Hello!

We are looking for one or two parent volunteers who could support our ADST cooking and baking program for the year.

The volunteer role involves:
-shopping for ingredients
-bringing the ingredients to the school the morning of the activity or the day before
-supplying the receipt to the school secretary for reimbursement
-One or two times per month commitment
-baking help will sometimes be needed during the school day too

Please let us know if you’re interested! We will not be able to run this program without some support. Thank you in advance!

FSA

Hello!

A letter in a sealed envelope went home with your child yesterday in regards to the Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA). We will begin testing next Tuesday and it will take a couple weeks to complete the full test. All students will be expected to write the FSA unless we receive a parent letter excusing the child.

Merci!

Wear your orange shirt!

Hi everyone!

This is a reminder to wear your orange shirt tomorrow for the Orange Shirt Day assembly!

Merci!

Meet the Teacher Summary

Thank you to everyone who attended our Meet the Teacher on Thursday afternoon. If you were not able to make it, no worries! I am posting a summary below:

French Immersion
-We hope students will continue with the French Immersion program
-Students will be working with a variety of teachers this school year for high school preparation (more was explained on our September newsletter- Please let us know if your child did not give this to you yet!)

Classroom Expectations
-Enter quietly in the morning, after recess and after lunch
-We expect students to do their best so they can reach their full potential
-We value that this is a team effort between the student, parents and teachers
-Students have been using “lockers” and sharing with a locker buddy
-Agendas: We encourage students to write in their agendas after each block instead of at the end of the day, as this is the routine they will need to get used to in high school. No agenda signing to promote responsibility and independence.
-Let us know if your child is struggling with the agenda and if they need further support with a different organizational system. The agenda is not for everyone!
-Overdue work: Parents will receive a general email the week that an assignment is due. It is expected to come soon after receiving the email.

Classroom blog
-Please keep up to date by checking the class blog regularly!

Monthly emails
-We will email families 2-3 times a term to inform families about what we are learning in the classroom
-Office 365 will be used with all students (a yellow form went home 2 weeks ago)

Mr. Martin- You will be missed!

Mr. Martin has chosen to go on a new adventure! He is retiring after 28 + years with the Burnaby School District. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Mr. Martin for the last 8 years. He is full of so many valuable skills and he has made many contributions to our school community. Selfless, generous, open-minded and hard-working…It is going to feel so different without him on staff. Mr. Martin’s new adventure will be just as exciting as his career as a teacher- rewarding and full of many more memories. Wishing him all the happiness in the world!
