Behaviour & Collaborative Class Goal

As a class, we are continuing to work on strengthening our transitions between subjects and classrooms, such as moving to Math, Art, and Music, so that we arrive prepared, settled, and ready to learn.

As we move into Term 2, our collaborative class goal will focus on:

  • Maintaining a respectful noise level during transitions
  • Avoiding side conversations
  • Settling quickly so learning time can begin right away

To support this goal, I have met with all students to discuss the increased expectations for Term 2. We talked together about what positive transitions look and sound like, and how these routines help create a calm and respectful learning environment.

We also discussed behaviour during lessons, where students are expected to listen fully and attentively, follow directions, and remain engaged so that learning can take place without interruption. At this time, students are experiencing an exceptionally challenging time meeting expectations during Music class, which impacts learning for themselves and others.

I kindly ask that you discuss these expectations at home with your child, particularly the importance of respectful listening, self-regulation, and following through on classroom expectations in all learning spaces.

Together, by reinforcing consistent expectations at school and at home, we can support students in developing the skills they need to be successful learners and respectful community members. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Warmly,

Ms. Bianca Lavorata

Building Responsible Work Habits Together

Dear families,

As we move through the school year, one of our key goals is helping students develop stronger organizational skills and responsible work habits.  Completing assignments on time and putting forth their best effort are essential skills—not just for school success, but for life!

To support this, our class blog is a valuable tool for students and families. It provides regular updates on assignments, due dates, and learning goals. We encourage students to write in their agendas daily and double check the blog regularly to stay organized and prioritize their schoolwork. This habit helps students take ownership of their learning and manage their time effectively

We also invite parents to check the blog alongside their child. Your involvement at home reinforces the importance of staying on top of school responsibilities and helps students build independence and accountability.

In class, students are expected to submit assignments on time and to ensure their work reflects their full potential. We emphasize quality over speed, and we support students in developing the skills they need to revise, reflect, and grow as learners.

Thank you for your ongoing support!

With gratitude,

Ms. Bianca Lavorata

Helping Hands for Hunger

Dear Families,

We are organizing a Helping Hands for Hunger food drive and collecting non-perishable food items (unopened, not expired) to support families in our community.  This initiative is part of our Social Studies unit on global issues, where students are exploring different global issues, including food insecurity and the power of community action. Through this project, we hope to empower our young leaders to make a meaningful impact locally.
As part of this initiative, student leaders will be visiting classrooms to share information about the food drive, as well as share information on the morning announcements to encourage school-wide participation.
We invite all Brentwood Park students, families, and staff to donate non-perishable food items:
Examples of non-perishable items include:
  • Canned soups, canned fruits, and canned vegetables
  • Dried beans, lentils, pasta, and rice
  • Cereals, crackers, and other packaged snacks
  • Sauces, jams, honey, and other spreads
  • Baby food and formula
Please ensure all items are unopened and not expired. We kindly ask that you check expiry dates before donating.
Thank you so much for your support and kindness.
Ms. Bianca Lavorata

Sock It To Poverty

Brentwood Park has launched a Sock It To Poverty campaign! As the weather gets colder, let’s help those in need. We are asking families to please bring in new, unused, and unworn socks, mittens, gloves and scarves! Donations will be collected in all classrooms from November 3-14.

Thank you for your support!
