Career Education

Term 1 and 2: Career Education

This term in Career Education, students focused on building strong personal awareness, organizational skills, and effective strategies for planning and achieving goals. Lessons emphasized responsibility, reflection, and developing habits that support both academic success and personal well-being.

Goal Setting and Action Planning

Throughout the term, students learned how to set meaningful short-term and long-term goals connected to their schoolwork, personal growth, and extracurricular interests. Using guided templates and class discussions, they created action plans that identified:

  • Specific goals they wanted to achieve

  • Steps needed to work toward these goals

  • Supports and resources that could help them

  • Check-ins to assess their progress (Community Circles)

Students engaged in regular reflection, examining why certain strategies worked, identifying obstacles that slowed their progress, and discussing how to adjust their action plans to be more successful. This process helped students understand that goal-setting is ongoing and adaptable, encouraging a growth mindset.

Organizational Skills and Personal Responsibility

A key focus was helping students develop strong organizational habits. They practiced:

  • Keeping their table areas and “lockers” neat and functional

  • Organizing materials needed for daily learning

  • Using classroom tools (agendas, folders, checklists) to stay on track

  • Breaking down larger assignments into manageable steps

  • Prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines

These routines supported students in producing “proud work” that reflects their best effort and potential.

Work Habits and Time Management

Students learned strategies for managing their time independently, including:

  • Planning ahead for assignments

  • Working steadily and gradually instead of leaving tasks unfinished or incomplete

  • Balancing responsibilities with personal interests

  • Recognizing when they need help and seeking support appropriately

Developing these habits helped students strengthen their sense of independence and responsibility for their learning.
