Be You!

Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!” Dr.Seuss

Be curious…

Be adventurous…

Be brave…

BE YOU!

Today we read the book “Be You!” by Peter H. Reyholds.  As we read this book together, we talked about the ways  that every child is unique and special, and to always “be your own work of art” . . . because there is one, and only one, YOU.

Introducing Division 11 . . . a collection of talented, exceptional, and one of a kind kiddos!

At the Park

The children have been working with loose parts to create a setting for a story.  A setting is ‘where and when’ a story takes place.  The setting for this story is in the park.  The children were then invited to write about their settings.

Ask your child about her/his setting.

The children have been working with a variety of materials, tools and technologies that promote creative and critical thinking.  They were encouraged to generate ideas, make a product, and solve problems in their design by incorporating new ideas.  They learned to persevere when something doesn’t work and be flexible enough to try different ways of doing things. They also practiced how to work effectively in a group; work respectfully and constructively with others.

These were the challenges presented to the children;

  • Keva Blocks – create a structure by stacking wood planks using no glue or connectors
  • Snap Circuits – build a variety of circuits that do something like turn on a light or run a fan
  • Coding Safari – learn the fundamentals of coding through this animal themed logic game
  • Lego – build, un-build, rebuild, thereby creating new things and new ways of thinking
  • Marble works – create a structure that uses chain reactions to move a marble through chutes
  • Chatter Pix – use oral language skills to create a picture that talks
  • Bee Bots – program the little robot to move in many directions  (a pre-cursor to coding)
