Division 7 has been learning about direct measurement.  First, we measured with uniform units which are consistent in size (unifix cubes, standard paper clips and rulers).  Next, we measured things with non-uniform units which are not consistent in size (children’s hands and pencils).  We used non-uniform units in the scale to measure weight.  We built our names with magnetic letters and put them in one side of the scale.  In the other side of the scale, we added bears, counters, trapezoids or unifix cubes.

We learned that the size of something does not determine its weight. [metaslider id=2843]

Division 7 loves the book “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom”.  This book is about how all the letters of the alphabet climb up the coconut tree until the tree bends so much that all the letter fall out.  We really like the rhyming structure and the abstract pictures.  This book was the inspiration for making our own coconut trees.  We used paper bags for the trunks and torn paper for the leaves.  We added our names and . . . . we created art that expresses who we are![metaslider id=2829]

Division 7 knows the importance of play.  Through play, we can use our imagination and curiosity to explore the world around us and learn new things.  Here we are engaged in puroposeful play.
