Measurement

Division 10 has been working on measurement with the help of our class pumpkin Jack.  First, we made an estimate about how tall we thought our pumpkin was, and then we measured its height.   Then we made an estimate about what we thought the distance around our pumpkin was, and then we used string to measure its circumference.  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Halloween

Fantasy is a necessary ingredient of living.   Dr. Seuss

Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.  Albert Einstein

Division 10 pretended to be our favorite characters for Halloween.  Imaginative and creative play is a very important part of a child’s cognitive and social development.

Pretend play may even enhance a child’s capacity for creativity (Russ, 2004; Singer & Singer, 2005).  Other research concluded that Nobel Prize winners and MacArthur Foundation “genius” grant awardees participated in early childhood games about make-believe worlds more often (Root-Bernstein, 2012).

What a great reason to encourage your little genius to use his or her imagination.

A is For Apple

A is for apple . . . . and adjectives.  Division 10 has been learning about using more descriptive words in our writing.  First, we made apples from tissue paper and acrylic paste.  Then, we brainstormed different words that describe apples.  Here are the apple poems that we wrote using only adjectives.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA
