October 2018 – Division 10

Month: October 2018

For Halloween Day, students can wear a costume if they wish. The costume parade is in the morning so students should arrive to school in costume. They can change out of their costume if they wish at any time during the day. Please remember to not send costume weapons (guns, knives, swords etc.). Happy Halloween!!!

Thank you to Nesters for donating pumpkins for our students! A great big thank you to the parents who helped deliver the pumpkins to classes and to the parents who came in on Friday afternoon to help carve them. We had such a fun time!

The students were very excited to take their carved pumpkin home to put out for Halloween!

This month we have had the pleasure of meeting and working with our  big buddies in Ms. Carley’s class. This week the big buddies helped us build a Haunted House! The students had so much fun planning and designing their houses. It was great to see older students supporting our younger students. Check out our haunted houses!

We decided to learn about bats as we approach Halloween. We started with thinking about what we already knew about bats. We did a partner share about what we knew and then picked one fact to share with the class and record on post-it notes.

After that we thought about and shared all the questions we have about bats. The students worked together to decide how their questions could be grouped into categories. This will help guide our SPOOKY research about bats! Check out our work …

We have been learning about The Colour Wheel.  We have done several activities exploring and learning about primary and secondary colours.

The students mixed primary colours together on their paper to create a hue of orange. They used the paint they mixed, pastels, paper and chalk to create their Night Time Pumpkins. Take a look!

Hello Families of Division 10,

Wow! Where has the time gone? It is already the beginning of October. We have been so busy getting to know each other and learning all the routines and expectations in our class.  I am impressed with the level of responsibility the class is showing with coming in the morning and remembering their “jobs” and doing them independently.  We have had most notice folders at school almost every day for the first month. Thank you for your support with this. Thank you also for supporting our Home Reading program and Poem of the Week program at home.

Reminders:

  • Library day is on Monday. If it’s a holiday we will visit the Library on the Tuesday or Wednesday that week.
  • Monday October 8 is a holiday – Thanksgiving Day – No school
  • Please replace any wet clothes that your child has used from their extra clothes bags that we keep here at school.
  • As we head into the rainy season, please continue to ensure your child is dressed for the weather as they will be going outside in the rain for recess and lunch

Thanks!

Holly Cooper
