January Explorations!

Back to school after winter break has been a flurry of activity! We have launched several new investigations, including transforming part of our classroom into an aquarium as we take on “Ms. Allanson’s Not a Box Design Challenge”. As Winter is slowly moving towards Spring, we are getting garden ready by experimenting with indoor seed growing. Today we planted a variety of ‘micro greens’ so we could grow a tasting garden. In two short weeks, we should have enough micro greens to have a tasting party! Stay tuned to see how these projects evolve over the next few weeks. For now, please enjoy photos from our time together at school during these first weeks of 2024!

Here is a selection of photos as we looked closely at nature! We practiced drawing our observations like a naturalist. We are learning that drawing is an important way of seeing and helps us to connect with and learn more about nature! Our Big Buddies also shared their learning about how birds manage the winter!

“It’s not a box! It’s an aquarium!” Ms. Allanson’s design challenge has begun! We are working through the design process. We spent several days planning and testing out our ideas. Ms. Allanson set out some criteria or rules, and we finally decide to create an aquarium inside our classroom. Day one of building was a very busy and exciting way to start our morning last week!

First seed planting of the year!

And finally, last week we welcomed our first Guest Reader into our Sharing Rainbow. Matteo’s Mom, Michelle, delighted us with a wonderful reading of “Super Red Riding Hood” by Claudia Davila.

I’m excited to see what February will bring!

Love,

Ms Allanson
