Welcome to June!

Hello Division 8!

The month of June is here!

You have most certainly probably noticed that with the nicer weather this time of year we see greener grass, more leaves on the trees, and flowers and plants growing and sprouting! The next time you are out on a walk with your family, take notice of the new growth you see that might not have been there last month! to fit with this, we will be starting a new unit on Plants, that I think all of you are going to both enjoy and do a great job at participating in!

Very important to note, is that we will be covering the same material online as we will in-class. For those of you attending class in-person starting this week, please do not complete the online material in advance as this is what we will be covering in-class.

Our Wednesday 10am Zoom meeting is still on, and all students (whether you are planning to attend in-person or continue with online learning) are welcome to attend! I look forward to seeing you and hearing your temperatures and bouquets, and possibly finishing up with a few games!

Please remember that in terms of assessment, there will be no difference to your report card whether you chose to continue with online learning or if you chose to return in-person. Please just continue to approach your assignments with your best efforts either way!

For parents: should there be any change regarding your choice of where your child is learning, please let myself or the school office know immediately.

Mr. Ewert’s Introduction

Dear Division 8,

As most of you have already been introduced to me from the last few online class meetings, my name is Mr. Ewert, and I am excited to be your teacher for the remainder of the school year!

I know that you have had a wonderful year so far with Ms. Watt. As you know, Ms. Watt is taking a bit of time off in order to have her baby and spend this important time with her family. We wish her all well and will keep in touch with her as we can! She is sure to send us some updates too.

I am looking forward to spending the remainder of the year as your teacher. At this time, we are still going to be doing online learning, and if there are any changes or updates to this, we will let you know as soon as we can!

I am looking forward to seeing you all on our Zoom meetings and to reviewing your assignments in order to get to better know you.

A little bit more about me:

I have been a teacher with the Burnaby School District for the last 12 years (which is since before you were all even born!). I taught at a school called “Cascade Heights” in Burnaby, with Ms. Kwok (your previous principal!).

I have a daughter who is almost 2 years old, and her name is Altheya. You might occasionally see her in the background at our Zoom meetings. My wife, Mrs. Ewert, is having our second baby soon, but not until the end of the school year.

I have a dog named Winston, who loves to swim and chase the ball. We take him outside every day, and he makes sure we always get our daily exercise.

My favourite hobbies are running, biking, and swimming, and in the summertime I often compete in a type of sport competition called “Triathlon” that combines all of these individual sports together. I also love to read books, to go hiking, and learning to play the guitar.

As a fun extra activity for this week, if you have time, I would love for you to share a little bit about yourself with me (interests, hobbies, pets, family, and anything else you would like to share), so that I can learn more about who you are!

Looking forward to hearing more about you!
