Suncrest Water Park and Central Park Primary Picnic/ Walking Field Trip

Good morning Families,

Cannot believe we are almost halfway through the month of June! Here is some information and upcoming dates to note as we celebrate the end of the school year:

Suncrest Water Park- Wednesday June 18 @1pm: Weather Permitting

If your child would like to enjoy cooling down in the water if the weather is warm please have them wearing their swimsuit when they arrive to school. As Suncrest does not have change rooms we recommend already wearing it underneath clothing and we will end early to dry off in the sunshine. If students do not want to get wet there is the playground and an outdoor space to play games or relax on their towel with art, card games, snack etc.

To wear:

  • swim suit under clothing
  • sunscreen

To bring:

  • waterproof shoes or sandals (please do not wear all day)
  • sun hat or ball cap
  • towel
  • bag for wet towel
  • snack to enjoy at the park

Please refrain from bringing water toys or guns as we still will be following Suncrest’s Code of Conduct.

If the weather is not great we will have another indoor fun activity in our classroom.

Central Park Primary Picnic/ Walking Field Trip (ALL DAY): Tuesday June 24

A field trip form for all Primary Students will be making its way to you shortly. The form will also include a parent section to sign if you would like to join us on the walk there. I will be needing at least a parent or two to stay in the walking field trip ratio as I have Ms. A.  This is an annual Primary trip and the more parents that can come help supervise the better! Here is some information ahead of time.

Like last year we will be leaving the school around 9:30am and will make our walk back around 2:00pm. Drop off and pick up times are at 8:50am and 3:00pm as usual.

Please ensure your child is already wearing:

  • their swim suit
  • a sun hat/ ball cap
  • suncreen
  • running shoes **for the walk**

Your child will need to bring (in their backpack or spare bag they can carry on their own):

  • water bottle
  • sunscreen (to apply again after lunch)
  • a towel
  • a change of clothes (if needed)
  • sandals or water shoes
  • Litter-less snack and lunch

Please refrain from bringing water toys or guns as we still will be following Suncrest’s Code of Conduct.

Classroom Clean up: Last two weeks of School

We will be starting our classroom clean up. Students in Division 12 have already started helping me take things down in our classroom, tidying up shelves and cleaning out our spaces to get ready for summer clean up and next school year. Clothing and extra shows will be sent home the last full day of school (June 25) and sometime the last week of school we will begin sending home some of their materials and art in their folders.

Burnaby Public Library Reading Program

As Suncrest Library is closed for the school year I want to encourage families to use the Burnaby Public Library. To encourage your child to read over the summer I recommend signing up for the Summer Reading Program. There are many fun incentives and events this year!

Sign up using this link or visit your local public library for more details!

Thank you for a great school year!

Ms. Toor

Draft of the June Calendar

Good afternoon families!

Attached is our draft schedule for June. We will be adding more dates as we go, such as Suncrest Water Park days and confirming when the last Library session with Ms. Ho will be.

We have a soccer program visiting Suncrest and Division 12 is on Monday June 2 in the afternoon, please dress for the weather as it will be outside (ie. sun hat/ sunscreen and clothing for movement).

Please start looking at your books at home and return our home reading (the black and white levelled readers) and Suncrest Library books (check books for the barcode in the top corner) well before the last week of school so we can start cataloguing materials for next school year.

Field Trip tomorrow

Good afternoon families,

A reminder that tomorrow is our field trip to the Vancouver Aquarium.

Attached is the field trip checklist that also went home in your child’s planner on Friday.

Please make sure your child has all the items in their backpack to carry. I also recommend dressing your child in bright colours as some of the exhibits are a bit darker to see the sea animals.

Please be on time for the first bell tomorrow as we will go over expectations, use the washroom and depart on the bus at 9:15am.

Parents who are volunteering, I will have a schedule printed for you to follow and I also emailed a copy last week.

We will be leaving the aquarium at 1:30pm which will give us plenty of time to arrive at Suncrest for pick up at the regular time.

Thank you! So excited for tomorrow!

Ms. Toor

This week!

Good afternoon families,

Here are a few reminders this week.

Friday is sports day. Please have your child wear their house team colour and pick up/ dismissal is at 1pm. Please look at the email sent by Ms. Sakic with a schedule and more information. Looking forward to seeing you all there!!!

We also had a class talk about making “good choices” outside during unstructured times at lunch and recess. It’s the end of the school year but we always are working on this, especially while I am not supervising and eating my own lunch. Please have a conversation about this at home to share the same message as myself and Ms. Sakic.

Our Suncrest Shines Motto is to ask yourself before you do something “Is it safe, is it friendly.”

Thank you for your support!

Ms. Toor

Sports Day Theme week

Good afternoon families!

Sports Day is next week. In your child’s planner they will be coming home with a list of colours to wear next week. If your child wears the colour of the day and their house team colour on Friday May 16, they can earn a point each day for their house team.

Attached is a screenshot of the calendar

Thank you,

Ms. Toor

This week! Grade 6/7 Business fair and Mother’s Day

Good morning families,

During the end of the year you will probably get more blog posts as things come up. Sorry in advance as information comes at the very last moment! I will forward information as soon as I get it 🙂

This Thursday May 8 the Grade 6 and 7s are having a Business fair where they are selling key chains, slime and items like squishes to raise money for the end of the school year. This is an opportunity for the older students to raise money for some of their year end events.

If your child is interested in buying any items please ensure they come with the money in an envelop/ ziplock bag with their name and how much is in there. I talked to many Grade 7s and they said each item is worth under $5.

As well on Thursday Students will be bringing home their Mother’s Day gifts. We have our practice Earthquake drill on Friday where students will be picked up outside and it is a better idea to send them home the day before than to accidentally get left on the field.

Thank you,

Ms. Toor

I will also email the extra parents who also are free to volunteer and they are more than welcome to come join us, they would just have to pay the admission fee. I always find on field trips.. the more help the better! This is going to be a fun day for Division 8 and 12!

More information to come soon!

Thank you!

Ms. Toor

Caterpillars, Planner Cover Contest and notices

Good afternoon families,

Our caterpillars got too hot in our classroom over the long weekend. Just to give you the heads up… we chatted about uncontrollable things that could happen to them in the environment as well (example: being eaten by other insects or their chrysalis being knocked down by the wind or another animal). We had a great discussion about this today and our surviving caterpillars have been moved into our neighbouring / less hot environment (Ms. Santi’s Classroom Room 6). We will be continuing to learn about them and will be able to visit them with families during student led conferences next week.

Planner Design Contest!

It’s that time of year again! Attached is the design contest. If you are interested please let me know and I will photocopy the design sheet for you to take home.

If you have not submitted the forms for the earthquake drill, field trip or student leds please send them back to school as soon as you can.

Thank you,

Ms. Toor
