Halloween

Good afternoon families,

Here is some information about our exciting end to October this Friday!

How is Division 11 going to Celebrate Halloween?

We are going to participate in Halloween activities throughout the day that will also connect to some of our academic topics.

After the parade we will have a small halloween celebration with a short film, games and snacks. If you would like to bring a snack for the group to eat, please ensure it is individually wrapped (peanut, egg and all types of nut free) as we do have students with allergies and sensitivities to those foods mentioned above in our class. You are also more than welcome to just send a snack for your child to enjoy during the film. All goody bags will be handed out at the end of the day. Myself and the staff in the classroom also have some goodies to hand out at the end of the day Friday.

Halloween Parade

The parade will begin by 1:15pm. Parents are always welcome to view the parade outside or in the gym. The gym is a dry place to view the parade if the weather does not cooperate. The weather is calling for rain so please ensure your child is also prepared to go outside for lunch and recess as Suncrest is a West Coast Recess school.

Carved Pumpkins

If you are bringing your pumpkin back to school carved on Friday morning please ensure your child’s name and Division 11 is on the back or bottom of their pumpkin so we can return it you at the end of the day. All the pumpkins brought to school will be displayed in the gym during our parade! This is a great Suncrest tradition that is still around since I attended the school! So nice to see it continue!

Thank you and I look forward to seeing all your costumes!

Ms. Ciolfitto

P.S. I will make another blog post early next week with upcoming dates and reminders for November as dates are being added to our calendar including some family reading mornings and spirit days planned by the leadership team!

Heartifact and other October dates

Good morning families,

It was so nice meeting all of you last week and hearing the goals you have for your children. All of the conversations allowed myself and Ms. Raj to get to know your child on a deeper level and we are looking forward to continue being a part of your child’s learning journey.

Here is some upcoming information for the next couple weeks of school.

School Wide Write: Heartifact Due (no later than) Tuesday October 21

Attached is the Heartifact Notice that already went home. A school wide write is done twice a year for grades K-7 and each member of our school community will be writing about their “Heartifact.”

Please begin bringing your items starting Monday morning and the last day to bring it to class is on Tuesday morning as the photography club will stop by our class to take polaroid photos before 10am.

Please support your child by having them bring their item in a bag with  their name on it. I will keep the items in my cabinet until it’s time for photos and on Tuesday afternoon your child will bring their chosen items back home.

We will be using these items for our school wide write.  Please support your child, if you haven’t already, in selecting a meaningful piece for their writing.

Photo Re-Takes:

Please let me know in your child’s planner or through email to let me know if your child will be re- taking their school photos on Thursday October 23. It will happen in the morning before Outdoor Classroom.

Fun Lunch:

If you order fun lunch do not forget to pack a small snack for snack time.

Words Their Way Spelling:

This week we began our phonic spelling program called “Words their way.” We have students working in various groups focusing on initial letter sounds, letter blends (digraphs), vowels, vowel blends (dipthongs).  Each week your child will bring home an envelop of cards to practice. They are yours to keep after we spend the week focusing on certain cards. Words their way is a great program that supports students phonemic awareness for writing and spelling. A notice will be coming home Friday that shares many ways to engage in the program.

Next steps are to get our reading groups and home reading program going! We are also going to have a couple family reading mornings beginning next month during our morning soft start. Stay tuned for more details!

Upcoming Dates:

Thursday October 23- Photo re-takes

Friday October 24- Pro-D-Day (no school for students)

Monday October 27- Suncrest Pumpkin Patch

Div 5 and 11 will be at the pumpkin patch from 11:15-11:30am and hot chocolate to follow

Friday October 31- Halloween Parade (after lunch)

Thank you,

Ms. Ciolfitto
