Happy Monday Division 6! Before I begin with the daily schedule, there was some big news that happened this past Friday.  It was announced that schools in B.C. would be open on June 1 on a voluntary and part time basis.  Things will look differently going back into the schools.  One thing that we have to keep in mind is that we need to make sure that we continue to wash our hands, remain socially distant from each other, and stay home if you are sick.

Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed the long weekend and spent some quality time with your families!  This week, we will have our CLASS MEETING for TOMORROW from 11:00 to 11:30.  We’re going to do a SHOW and TELL for this CLASS MEETING.  I want you to bring ONE thing that you have that is special to you.  It can be anything from a favourite toy to a pet to a favourite picture to anything that you want.  I want you to explain what you bring to our SHOW and TELL and explain why it is important to you.  Try your best to be apart of the meeting.  Please make sure that you mute your microphone while someone is speaking. Here’s today’s schedule:

  • PE WITH JOE or JUST DANCE videos – Choose between PE WITH JOE or choosing JUST DANCE videos. If you have some other exercise that you found online, then do that. Try your best to get your 20 minutes of exercise every morning.  Drink plenty of water and take breaks when needed.
  • RAZ KIDS – Let’s get back with RAZ KIDS this week guys! I want you to do 20 minutes of RAZ KIDS.
  • POETRY – This week, I want you to complete 2 HAIKU poems! I’ve uploaded the guidelines (instructions) under the CLASS MATERIALS folder on MS TEAMS. Once you click CLASS MATERIALS, then click into ELA, and then finally click into the POETRY folder – then you should find the guidelines for writing a HAIKU.   Read it carefully – be aware of the rules for a HAIKU:  understand the syllable count for each line.  The due date for your 2 HAIKU poems is FRIDAY, MAY 22ND.  Upload your poems on MS TEAMS.  I want you to watch a video on youtube titled:  HAIKU ELEMENTARY LESSON to get some background information on writing haiku poems.  In your internet browser, type in:
  • MATH – Today, I want you to continue to work on your MATH assignment: AREA AND PERIMETER OF DIFFERENT ROOMS IN YOUR HOME.  The due date for this assignment is FRIDAY, MAY  22ND.  Please upload your answers on MS TEAMS.  You need to show what formula you are using for area and perimeter.  Also, you need to show what numbers you are using for your calculations.  It’s okay to use a calculator if you want to.
  • SCIENCE – This week, we are continuing our look into biomes and focusing on the FOREST BIOMES. I’ve uploaded a new article that I want you to read on MS TEAMS under the CLASS MATERIALS folder.  Click into the CLASS MATERIALS folder and then click into the SCIENCE folder – then you should find the article ALL ABOUT THE FOREST BIOMES.  I want you to read the article and answer the questions at the end of the article.  All of the answers to the questions will be from the article.  Upload your answers on MS TEAMS. Remember to use the reading strategies that we have learned this year by previewing the text features:
    • Preview the headings and subheadings to get an idea of what will be included in the article
    • Look at the key words, so that you know what new words you will be learning before you read the article
    • Review the questions at the end of the article so that you know what questions you need to answer while you read the article
  • SCIENCE – If you have time, you can watch the following videos from Moomoo Math and Science:
    • TROPICAL RAINFOREST BIOME (type in your internet browser):
    • TAIGA BIOME FACTS (type in your internet browser):
    • THE TEMPERATE DECIDUOUS FOREST BIOME (type in your internet browser):
    • SS – This week, we will continue our discussion of government policies that discriminated against different groups of people in Canadian history. Remember, to discriminate means to treat a group of people unfairly because of their gender, culture, race, or religious background.  To discriminate based on someone’s race is called racism.  This week, I want you to read the article on THE S.S. KOMAGATA MARU.  This article is located in the CLASS MATERIALS folder on MS TEAMS. Click into the CLASS MATERIALS folder, then click into the SS folder, and then you should be able to access the article.  Please complete the questions at the end of the article on a separate word document and upload it on MS TEAMS.
    • SS – If you have time, please watch the following videos on youtube for more background information:
      • REMEMBERING THE KOMAGATA MARU (In your internet browser, type in):
      • THE RACIAL LEGACY OF THE KOMAGATA MARU (in your internet browser, type in):
      • PRACTICE TYPING with Dance Mat typing or if you found a website that you like, then you can use it. If you have completed Dance Mat, you can redo it for now. Practicing for 15 minutes everyday will help you get better at typing.
      • MUSIC – Please remember to check Fletcher’s blog for updates. Her blog is on the Suncrest website at https://sd41blogs.ca/fletcherp/
      • MS TEAMS – You can use the chat option with each other after you have completed the day’s activities. It will be open at a different time today. It will be open from 10:30 to 1:30.  I will be available to talk to you guys if you have any questions with any assignments.  Or if you just feel like chatting with me, that’s okay too.  Remember that we have our CLASS MEETING on TOMORROW from 11:00 to 11:30.

That’s all for today.  See you guys tomorrow!
