October Due Dates

  • October 4 – (ELA) The Breadwinner Chapters 1+2 and Questions 1 -3
    • Students to read Chapters 1-2 of “The Breadwinner” (available on Epic) and then answer the three reflection questions written on the board, sharing their initial thoughts and feelings about the plot, characters, and any aspects that may have puzzled them during their reading.
  • October 4 – Land Acknowledgement
    • Students write the introductory section of their personalized land acknowledgment, which highlights their identity and the Indigenous territories they live on. While students are encouraged to incorporate additional knowledge about Indigenous communities, this is optional.
    • Students will continue to build on this writing in the following days.

  • October 6 – (SCIENCE) Newton’s First Law Stations Qs 23-26
  • October 10  – (ART / MATH) Fantasy Minature Golf Hole Design
    • Students draw both an aerial and side view of a fantasy miniature golf course hole based on a theme of their choice. To show their understanding of congruent and contiguous angles, students need to carefully map out and label the path for achieving a hole-in-one on their designed course.
  • October 11 – Land Acknowledgement
    • Grade 6s to have their final copy, Grade 7s to have the final draft with newly added final section outlining what they will do going forward that will support Indigenous people, communities, and the land
  • October 11 – (FRENCH) La Nourriture
    • Students build on their vocabulary through word finding, matching, and fill-in-the-blank activities, completing page 5 (labeling cutlery) and page 6 section A+B (Au Cafe). Students encouraged to write new/unfamiliar words on a blank piece of paper as that will become their “Vocabulary Journal/Tracker”
  • October 16 – (FRENCH) Au Cafe + Vocabulary Review
    • Students continue to build on their vocabulary by classifying provided words into “food,” “drink,” and “objects”
    • Students begin writing simple statements in French to experience preferences
  • October 16 – (ELA) Character Tracker + Chapters 3 and 4 Reading Comprehension Handout
      • Students continue to add details to their character trackers
      • Students answer questions about the ideas in, and events of, chapters 3 + 4
  • October 17 – (HPE) Resilience Journal questions
    • Students consider resilience through journalling, using 4 prompts to reflect on how they view resilience and the ways in which they have been resilient in their lives
  • October 19 – (SCIENCE) Rocket Science
    • Students research a modern space rocket design, illustrate its features, and describe how the rocket is built to overcome the force of gravity more easily
  • October 23 – (ELA) Updated Character Tracker + Venn Diagram + Questions
    • Students continued updating their character tracking sheet with new information from the text
    • Students fill in their Venn Diagrams comparing the film adaptation of the text with events, characters, scenes, etc. that are unique to the film/text or that are the same in both
    • Students complete the questions sheet comparing the original and adapted text
  • October 23 – (FRENCH) Les Verbes en -ER Sections E+F
    • Students fill in the blanks with the correctly conjugated form of the verb given in brackets
    • Students complete the sentences with the correctly conjugated form of the regular -er verb manger
  • October 24 – (HPE) Resilience Statements and Word Search
    • Students read statements about resilience and pick a number that represents how true each statement is for them before totalling their scores
    • Students complete a word search – identifying as many words as possible which relate to resilience, and choose three words that resonate with them
  • October 30 – (ELA) Letter From a Character Outline
    • Students complete the outline for their letter, making note of what memory they want to share and the 3 events they plan to include in their letters
