AquaVan reflection

The Vancouver aquarium came to visit our school and showed us lots of cool species, one of my favorite section was when daphne(my group instructor) showed the orca whale’s jaw. She held it beside my ear and taped the ear hole and we could hear her tapping wit her finger, it was really interesting because when you look at their head you don’t see their ear. It’s actually right at the tip of their chin that when they meet a friendly dolphin they communicate with clicking noises and he/she communicates by attracting the sound to make it travel through their hole and into their eardrum. I though they didn’t have ears at all, but it’s right beside their eyes and I think they’re really cool mammals.

Killer Whale Tipe B

Something else they showed us was the arctic fox, the arctic fox is a really funny animal because in the spring all of their furs will shed and they’ll look like this.they do that so they like take off their winter coat when it’s spring and summer moreover Arctic foxes generally eat any small animal they can find, including lemmings, voles, other rodents, hares, birds, eggs, fish, and carrion. They scavenge on carcasses left by larger predators such as wolves and polar bears, and in times of scarcity even eat their feces. It is sort of a diet they eat to stay in shape.

AquaVan Reflection

My Reflection on the AquaVan…

I really liked when they showed us animals (E.G Sea anemone, Sea urchins, and a crab shell but with no one inside!!) which was cool, but I really want more animals next year.

a lovely Sea Urchin in the water

Next, They showed us animal body parts From a crab shell to a Killer Whale’s Jaw, also saw a small bottle with garbage from to middle of the Pacific Ocean, which was really sad because that one tiny bottle contained a lot of garbage so image like, 1,000,000 of those bottles, so that would a huge amount of garbage.

Waste on beach

(By the way this was on a beach)

In conclusion I just wanted to say that we need to act fast to save to ocean, because it will help us for the more years to come.

AquaVan Visit

AquaVan Reflection

During the AquaVan visit I learned some valuable information. They talked to us mostly about the state that the ocean is in. It is horrible. I thought the plastic island was the size of Texas, but she said it is now the size of BC and Alberta combined! I also learned that in the year 2040 they think that there will be no more seafood. So unless we change soon, there will be no more seafood to eat. I think to help the problem we should stop using unnecessary plastics. Plastic is the main thing that made all this happen in the first place. The effects that we make on the ocean can affect us so I hope we change soon.
