Reflection: Dragon Boating

On May 10, May 19, and May 25, our class went dragon boating and it was an interesting experience, even though I went dragon boating last year. My arm got really tired after what seemed like 20-30 strokes. But other than that (and when the person in front of me splashed me) it was very fun. I also reviewed the boat commands, which were:

Ready Position! = hold your paddle in an “A” shape

Go!= start paddling

Hold the Boat! = stop the boat

Brace the Boat! = put your paddle horizontally into the water? It’s hard to explain…

I also learned the parts of a paddle. So there’s the “T” grip, the shaft, the neck, and the blade.

I think that dragon boating builds your teamwork skills because in order to go fast, all of the paddles have to row at the same time. It also improves your strength because it requires a lot of strength to row for a long time without getting tired or taking a break.

dragon boating trip refletion

my class went to burnaby lake for dragon boating we walk about like ten minutes I think. when we got to burnaby lake  we went in to the forest to see animals, plants, and some things that the animals build. then we went to the doc for dragon boating how ever for me I,m not aloud to go on the boat because my parents don,t want to risk my health so was on the doc being the reporter making sure that everyone was doing ok and take pictures. then we got back almost 3;00pm.

Dragon boat Refelction

Well I went dragon boating with my class, on our first way to there we walked and went on a little hike looked around burnaby lake and we found different trees,a raven’s nest, and many flowers. We got to the parking lot of where we were going to dragon boat the parking lot looked very familiar I use to go to that parking lot to ride my electric scooter! And when we got on the water we learned how to paddle and a tap drill and once we got faster I stuck my fingers in the water and it was very refreshing.

The second time we went we had a race and lost oh I forgot to add that we had teams we spilt up into two team my team was Team TIGERS the other team was Team AQUA when we raced the other team and lost but it was fun either way my glasses kept slipping and I felt like it was going to drop in the water while I was paddling! We learned a new drill called “The Wait Drill” paddle once wait for a few seconds and do that until we stop.

The third time we went my team played tug of war against each other the boat almost tipped all the way over it was fun we didn’t have winners but still really fun we met up with Team AQUA and al of a sudden two team mates from Team AQUA just came into our boat then we paddled around then we were going to the dock to go into Team AQUA’s boat! we started to paddle and then the people behind me AND in front of me thought it was going to be funny if they splashed me with water and the worst part was the back people was shovelling water with their paddles all over me instead of paddling and i got out SOAKING I wanted to tackle the people that made me soaking!!

Dragon Boating Reflection

Hello and our class got to go dragon boating. I only got to go on the boat once because the 2nd day of dragon boating I was away and the 3rd day my leg was hurting. But on the first day I had lot’s of fun because we all got splashed and I was soaking wet! I also got very tired because when I was paddling I had to give so much power to make it go faster. We had a race between team Aqua and team tigers. Team Aqua won the race. Dragon boating was a very fun experience for me.

Dragon Boating Reflection

We had 3 days were we went on a field trip, and those 3 days we went dragon boating! And no, we didn’t ride dragons like boats, that’s just how its called. I had a lot of fun going on a boat and using a paddle, cause I never used a paddle before, or sat in anything like a canoe, for that matter. Needless to say, I had a lot of fun. I got to splash my friends, I got splashed by them, and overall I just got wet from the water. It was fun, though, and totally worth it. In fact, we even had a race between our two teams. We were team Aqua, and we had to race team Tiger. Of course, we had the better name, so we automatically won that part. And during the race, I had to do a lot of work using the paddle, and we won as well. We also had a tug of war, were half of our boat was pushing one way and the other was pushing the other way. No one won that. Instead, we wasted all of our energy on trying to win a contest that you can’t win. Our boat also had a boarding party, and me and someone else got picked to board the other ship. We snuck up close to team Tiger and we jumped on board and raided (not really) they’re ship, and after that we jumped back. The last major thing we did was we paddled through the lily-pads and we got to touch them.

Dragon Boating Reflection

Dragon Boating was really fun. It was interesting getting in the boat and into the water. At first, I was scared of getting into the boat and sinking. But once you start paddling, that thought goes away!

I think dragon boating makes you learn different skills. You develop more strength when you really work the paddle. But, I think the skill that you develop the most of is communication. You have to get in sync with your team to get fast and move. So, you need to communicate very well with them.

You can use the strength skill with physical things. Like lifting and carrying. If you communicate with others in a group project you will likely get more work done than if you didn’t. Its easier to talk with others to get your voice heard than if you didn’t.

All-in-all, Dragon boating is helpful. In the game, and off the water.
