Student Vote 2019

Can-vote-stubThe federal election is just a couple of weeks away, and students at our school will have the opportunity to participate in a program that parallels the actual election and provides students with the opportunity to experience the voting process firsthand and practice the habits of active and informed citizenship. Students from our class will take on the role of election workers and coordinate a vote within the school. Participating students will cast ballots for the election candidates running in our electoral district. The overall results from the student vote across Canada will be shared publicly after the close of polls.

We will be taking a general look at our parliamentary system and at political parties. We will also make use of a version of CBC’s Vote Compass designed for youth to begin getting students thinking about their ideas and values and how different parties’ platforms match or differ from their individual ideas.

We still have more to investigate about government and our roles as citizens and voters, but I am looking forward to those discussions and finding out about students’ experiences with this year’s student vote.

  1. the student vote was fun and i really liked the student vote and i wish that after the vote they would announce it right after the vote

  2. This student vote is my first time voting. Now since I have experienced it, I know about how it works, and all the different jobs needed to make the process actually work. For this student vote I also did research and learned more about the parties, leaders and how government works in Canada. For this election, I also took role of a job in school. In the future, I will be looking forward to vote.

  3. During the student vote I learned how to vote properly and how it works. When I was learning about the election I learned the there was three jobs that people do so you can vote. The three jobs are a poll clerk, candidate representative and a deputy returning officer. I was a poll clerk but I would’ve liked to be a deputy returning officer. I couldn’t wait to find out the results from the student vote when we were done. When there is another vote in the future and I’m old enough i would love to vote again.

  4. I’ve never had experienced it before. I wish I was the deputy returning officer but I liked my job. I hope I could do this again in 4 years. I was happy that I did this awesome experience this year.

  5. It was fun because I got to be a poll clerk and experience the process of voting and learned a lot about the different parties and how the government works. I was hoping to be the deputy returning officer, but it was fun in the end.

  6. This was my first student vote. At first I thought the poll clerk job would be boring but after some time it was fun my class was doing a great job. The people who are poll clerks , deputy returning officer and the candidate representative in the real federal election have a lot of work to do.I will look forward to vote in the future.

  7. The student vote was great. Div.3 (my class) did a great job running the election. Are class were quick and organized we went threw two hundred and fifty students in a few days. The three jobs we had were candidate representative (what i was) where you observe for any trouble, Poll clerk where you handout ballots, And the deputy returning officer where you are in charge of most of the voting area. Because of this experience I am very excited to vote in the future.

  8. The Student Vote was definitely fun! I really liked my job as a Deputy Returning Officer, it felt pretty good to help the big and little kids, and the people who are voting for their first time. I also liked how i helped out with the ballot boxes and the screens.
