Rhythm Race:

Check this out! Bucket Drumming! You need: 2 sticks – (chopsticks or pencils will work just fine) and something to hit (a bucket, a big yoghurt container, a box – use your imagination. Just make sure that it’s not something that will be damaged by hitting. If you use a table top or a desk, put some cloth on it so you won’t put dents in the surface).

CAUTION: do NOT use your brother or sister! (or any other living thing) 🙂

Follow along with the rhythms that you see.  If you don’t get it right away, try again. You should get better every time. When you’ve mastered this one, (this one’s really easy) try the ones in the blog post or try the ones below. There are many other ones that are in the youtube feed. Have fun!

Here’s one that’s quite a bit more complicated but still not too hard. YOu can also see the music passing by and watch the drummer, which is helpful:

And another one, just for fun:

Rhythm Games:

Here’s a great game for learning rhythms. There are cool music tracks behind each little song, some that you will recognize. Start at the easiest level and once you get 3 stars, move on to the next level. See how far you can get! Or if you like to be competitive,  challenge the other kids in your class (or anyone from the other Divisions!) to see who can get to the highest level!

There’s a free lite version for iPad and iPhone on the app store. https://melodycats.com/rhythm-cat/

Here’s an instructional video:

If you don’t have an iPad or an iPhone, try this app. It’s called Rhythm Trainer: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/p/rhythm-trainer/9wzdncrdkcw9?wa=wsignin1.0&activetab=pivot:regionofsystemrequirementstab

I’m not sure if it works because I only have Apple devices and a Mac here. Sorry! Please let me know if this works, or if you can find another app that works on your Android device or your PC. Thanks!
