SPEECH WRITING ASSIGNMENT: Students will be given TWO classes (today and next Tuesday, Mar 5th) to write, edit and practice your own speeches using the information from brainstorming Ques 1- 6 last day to determine what you’d like your speech to be about.

Hand out grading rubric for speech assignment so students can work to ensure their speech will meet the criteria for the level of grade they are hoping to achieve: http://sd41blogs.ca/dubes/files/2024/02/Eng-11FP-Speech-Grading-Rubric.docx

********************Speeches will be presented in class on Thursday, March 7th ***************************

Speeches must be 1.5-2 mins in length; marks will be deducted if you are under or over this time so ensure you practice carefully.

Students must submit a written copy of their speech on the day of their oral presentation.

You do not have to have your speech completely memorized but you need to be well practiced and avoid reading the whole thing.

The majority of the grading for this assignment is on the flow of the delivery of your speech including:

– your body language

– your eye contact

– the volume and clarity of your voice (enunciation)

Students are reminded to ensure their portfolio is complete prior to the Term 2 cut off on Fri (Mar 1); incomplete portfolios will NOT be considered for your Term 2 grade and a zero will be assigned for students choosing to not complete their work that spans the length of this term (Nov-Feb). You will be given class time on Fri, March 1st to organize/complete your portfolios if you have minor items to finish. If you are missing significant portions of the work, ensure you come to flex this week and get it done prior to the term 2 cut off.
