For novel studies I was going to read Fatty Legs but I read out of my mind because someone told me out of my mind was really good.
It is scary and sad listening to the stories because the children have to go to residential school. They have to leave their family but they can go back home for a week for Christmas break but everything else is just torture(child abuse). Some things they do is the strap or do the dishes. In the book “When I was Eight”, she wanted to go to school(residential school) because she didn’t know how to read. When she was there she was called and said to her that she has to read part of a book but she didn’t know how to read so everyone was laughing at her. In “My name is Seepeetza” she had to go to residential school too, but she always said she missed home ands her family. Also they were only allowed to have one thing from the package they got from home each day. So it is very sad:(
Jacie said: “I feel sorry for the kids who have to go to residential schools. Then on the other hand, I am mad at the law and who passed the law that kids have to go to the residential schools.”
Why was there such thing as residential schools? Why would the law allow this type of school? Kids getting hurt, making them do dirty chores and not being able to see there family each day is horrid.
Good questions! Lets hope we find out some answers to this questions. Does anyone have any ideas about how to answer DJ’s question?
Who made the law of children having to go to residential schools, and why?
