Happy Halloween!

Div. 19 had a fun Friday getting into the Halloween spirit!

We created some awesome candy corn creatures with our Big Buddies first thing in the morning. After recess, we headed to the gym for the annual Primary parade and dance off party- Mr. Leclair was in the spotlight as our dance-off competitor! We then enjoyed some fun games in our classroom to end off the day. What a fantastic day!

The Power of Oobleck!

Scientist Paris from SCWIST came in to do a science workshop with us.

She talked about the three states of matter and the different types of chemical and physical changes that can occur in many items we are familiar with. We learned that atoms are tiny particles. We also learned that there is a 4th state of matter… plasma!

We were excited to engage in a messy, hands-on activity that tested the question:

“Can something be both a solid and a liquid at the same time?” YES!

We learned about Non-Newtonian fluids … and we made one today called Oobleck! (This fluid can behave like both a liquid and a solid depending on how much pressure is applied).

Do you know what would be an example of plasma?

Check out Div. 19 scientists in action!

ADST: Making apple pie! 🍎

Hello Autumn!

We have been learning fun facts about apples and pumpkins. For our first ADST project of the year, we worked collaboratively together to make apple pie.

Using Applied Skills:

-Use materials, tools, and technologies in a safe manner in both physical and digital environments

-Develop their skills and add new ones through play and collaborative work

We divided our recipe into sections which included; the peelers, the choppers, the mixers, and those who added different ingredients and special steps.

All of our five senses were happy today!

Big Buddies!

We were so excited to meet our Big Buddies from Mr. Jung’s Gr. 6/7 class!

We learned to ask specific questions to get to know one another and then chose a fun explorations activity to do together.

We cannot wait to see them soon for a collaborative activity!

Flashlight Friday

If you entered our classroom on Friday, you would be delighted to see the glow of cozy forts and conversations between students fully engaged in reading.

Reading by flashlight with a buddy is something we are now looking forward to every Friday…
