Parent Corner

  • Before frustration arrives at home, talk with your child and allow them to choose the tools they feel comfortable giving a try:

  • If your child is going to be absent, late, or needs to be picked up early- please call the office directly in addition to notifying us via email. Thank you!

  • We have a new counselor at BP this year. Please welcome Ms. Jolene Carlsen. If you wish to contact her, please email her: jolene.carlsen@burnabyschools.ca

  • DAILY HEALTH CHECKS to continue to be completed at home prior to arrival to school.

All students need to pass the daily health check in order to attend school. We are asking you to be diligent with this. If your child is feeling unwell, please keep them home to rest.

Thank you for your support and cooperation with this as we aim to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Food & Allergies in our classroom:

  • We are a nut-aware school. We have many students with food allergies- please avoid sending in food items that may contain peanuts or tree nuts.

Extra Clothing & Inside Shoes (to be kept at school):

  • Please ensure your child keeps a pair of extra clothes (including socks and underwear) and a pair of inside shoes- preferably sneakers that are easy to put on – at school at all times.
  • LABEL all items with your child’s name (including water bottles and lunch bags)

  • *HEALTHY & SAFETY PROTOCOLS outline the following:

– Students are encouraged not to share any food or drink items

– “Leave with what you brought” will pertain to all snack and lunch items to minimize landfill waste and traffic at trash, recycling and compost stations. All uneaten items, wrappers and containers (incl juice boxes) will be sent home at the end of each day.

Healthy snacks, lunches, and water bottles:

  • Recess snacks will be eaten outside during morning recess- please ensure your child has a simple snack (i.e wrappers or small ziplocs that can be placed into pockets to avoid litter around play areas); kindly avoid sending elaborate snacks in large containers

  • We encourage students to bring in healthy snacks and lunch items that will provide energy throughout the day. This helps students to focus and maintain creativity and critical thinking skills. For healthier food choices and ideas, click > here

  • Staying hydrated also helps to keep students focused- please ensure your child has a clean water bottle with them everyday

Outdoor Learning and Westcoast Recess:

  • At Brentwood Park, we believe it is essential that children get outside throughout the day to breathe fresh air and get their bodies moving! We will be spending a lot of time outside this year learning and playing.
  • Living in Vancouver, we get a ton of rainfall- please ensure your child is dressed for the weather (raincoat, umbrella, rain boots) so they are comfortable, dry and can enjoy their time outside with their friends

Toys, personal treasures, and stuffed animals:

  • These items need to remain at home, as they can get lost or damaged, and can also be a source of distraction

Thank you for your help and continued support!
