Week of June 15th-19th

Hi Division 5!

Wow! We’ve made it!  It’s our last week of school and you have made many achievements this year.  This year, you have grown in many ways that nobody would have imagined.  I’m very proud of all your accomplishments and I hope you will have a wonderful summer!  I will miss all of you and I hope to see many of you in September!

This week, we will be concluding our units.  You have a few final projects to work on:

  • Science
  • ADST
  • Writing
  • Art

We will continue with our regular scheduled zoom meetings:

Science and Math with Ms. Short (Tuesday and Wednesday); class meeting with me (Ms. Yapp) (Wednesday 11am).

Please email Ms. Short at   allie.short@burnabyschools.ca if you have trouble logging into the math or science meetings.  Select the link from the specific meetings, or copy the individual meeting IDs and passwords.

Here is a message from Ms. Short to you!

Hello Division 5,

What a year it’s been! I am so thankful to have been welcomed into your class this year to complete my practicum. Each and every one of you has helped to make this an unforgettable year.

Thank you all for being so incredibly kind, patience, and fun through the opportunities I had to teach you. When we were in the school, you were friendly and encouraging, and that has continued into our online learning journey. Everyone has been wonderful at adapting to the new online delivery method of my lesson plans, and I can’t thank you enough!

I hope you all have a wonderful summer and are able to enjoy spending time in BC with your families!

Ms. Short

This week, here are some activities I’d like to you try and keep working on:

    • Read 10-15 minutes on Epic Books each day (you can read more if you complete your daily assignments). Please only choose your own account/avatar.  DO NOT change other students’ profile.  Thank you!
    • Practice 10-15 minutes on Prodigy each day (you can practice more if you complete your daily assignments). I have set activities and assessments in this program that corresponds to our math curriculum.
    • Complete lesson 5: final inquiry project in Energy (lessons are posted on the Science page)
    • Complete lesson 1-6 in Geometry (lessons are posted on the Numeracy page)
    • Complete this week’s Spelling lesson (lessons posted on Spelling page)
    • Complete lesson 9: final paper in Persuasive Writing (lessons are posted on Writing page)
    • Complete lessons 1-6 in Social Studies on Indigenous Groups across Canada and the Pursuit of Natural Resources (lessons posted on Social Studies page)
    • Complete lesson 1-4 and the final project in Digital Cizitizenship (lessons posted on ADST page)
    • Complete 1 reader’s response in your BlogFolio (Read a book, is it fiction or non-fiction? What is the title? Who is the author? What was the book about? What did you learn? Did you make any connections? Anything interesting about the book?)
    • Reader’s Response Template
    • Art: This week, Ms. Short designed a lesson to help you create To celebrate Summer Solstice.  Check it out!
  •  To show your work, you will need to post it on your BlogFolio.  If you are posting photos or videos, it is best to use your portable devices (smartphones, tablets, or iPads).  If you forgot how to post, you can check out these instructions. I will check your posts regularly and comment on them.  If you need more help with how to post or log on to the programs, ask your family to email me at Shirley.cheung@burnabyschools.ca

Happy Learning!

Ms. Yapp
