Grade 2 and 3 Classes

As each of your situation is different. I am providing you with various resources and materials to continue your journey with music at home. I will be adding more as time goes on. The following music making activities can be done with older siblings or with parents. Some of the songs can be done alone.

Music Monday

Music Monday is the first Monday in May and it is a special day across Canada to celebrate the importance of music in our hearts and community. Every year we do a big assembly at Brentwood Park and this year things are different.  The music teachers have created messages for their students and there is a special one from me to you in the slideshow below.

Below is the theme song for this year’s music monday and it features Mr. Maroney playing the banjo and myself singing. Some of you may be familiar with the tune already. Sadly, we haven’t had time to work on it at all this year because of COVID19.  Check out the video to see Mr. Maroney’s awesome banjo playing.

30 Day song challenge

With people around the world on lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, we’re all looking for ways to stay entertained and for our brains to be engaged. This has led to many people getting involved in various musical ideas online. One fun way is the 30 day song challenge, where you answer a question using a song for each day during the challenge. Not only does it get people thinking about their favourite songs, but it also provides an insight into our musical tastes and allows others to discover new music.

Making instruments at home

These three web pages have some neat ideas of various instruments you can make at home.  For many of these you may need an older brother or sister to help out, or your parents.  If you decide to make something send a recording of it or a photo to me. The best place is to upload it in the chat in TEAMS if you are using teams. You can also sent it to my email matthew.yanko@burnabyschools.ca

Listening activities

Listen for the different instruments in the following video. What type of instruments do you year?

The next two video clips are cartoons about a composer from Russia Called Mussorgsky. He went to a museum one day and wrote music for a whole bunch of different pictures. Here are 2 examples of his songs.  After watching the videos, you can listen to any song and draw a picture of what you think that song is about, or find a picture and create music about that picture.
