Cystic Fibrosis

Hi all,

Since we are reading the story “Five Feet Apart,” I thought it would be good to learn a little more about CF. Below is a video about the disease. After that, I will post a few discussion questions for you to follow.

Film Accuracy

  1. How do you feel about seeing CF featured in a Hollywood movie?
  2. How are the characters you saw in the movie different from your
    experience with CF?
  3. Let’s talk about how a hospital stay looks or feels different than
    what the movie portrays.
  4. What part of the movie felt the most realistic to you? What felt
unrealistic? What would you have done differently if you were
    making a film about CF?
  5. What questions do you have about the movie?

What would you do?

Hi all,

Choose 1 of the following and then respond in a proper paragraph what you would do in the situation. All the best this week!

  • Your friends came over to your house for a movie night. One of your friends brought another friend so there are more people than you planned for. You want to pass out the drinks but you only have five cans of soda and you need 6 for everyone to have one. What could you do?
  • After basketball practice you go back to the locker room with your team to shower and change. When you are done dressing, you can’t find your shoes. What could you do?
  • You have been waiting all day for lunch to come because you are starving. Finally class gets over and you get to go to lunch. Except when you go to get to your lunch, it’s not there. You probably left it at home. What could you do?
  • There is a guy in your class who is always mean to you. He always bumps you when he walks by and he calls you names. He knocks stuff out of your hands and makes you feel stupid. You don’t think you can take it anymore. What could you do?
  • You really want to invite this new girl/guy to come to your birthday party, but you have never talked to them before. You are worried they will say no. What could you do?

Optional Weekend homework #1: Build a catapult

Hi all,

Since you have a Pro-D-Day on Monday and from the comments on the last post, I’ve decided to do weekly weekend homework challenges. It will be optional for those who want to take advantage of this. There will be a score sheet that tallies who won the most challenges over the next 8 weeks of school. The winner will get a giftcard prize of some sort.

Challenge #1- Who can build a catapult that flings the eraser the furthest.

GOOD LUCK!

Brainteasers

  1. Two fathers and two sons sat down to eat eggs for breakfast. They ate exactly three eggs, each person had an egg. The riddle is for you to explain how.
  2. Three guys rent a hotel room for the night. When they get to the hotel they pay the $$\$30 $$ fee, then go up to their room. Soon the bellhop brings up their bags and gives the lawyers back $5 because the hotel was having a special discount that weekend. So the three lawyers decide to each keep one of the $5 dollars and to give the bellhop a $2 tip. However, when they sat down to tally up their expenses for the weekend the could not explain the following details:

Each one of them had originally paid $10 (towards the initial $30), then each got back $1 which meant that they each paid $9. Then they gave the bellhop a $2 tip. HOWEVER, 3 • $9 + $2 = $29

The guys couldn’t figure out what happened to the other dollar. After all, the three paid out $30 but could only account for $29.

    Can you determine what happened?

Should Students Get Homework?

Hi all,

Over the weekend I was thinking about how ‘little’ homework I’ve given you all year and how I should probably change this. The reasons why I don’t give home are:

  • some people don’t have help to complete homework at home
  • some people are too busy with extra-curricular activities after school
  • children need to learn how to be kids and just go out and chill with their friends

But, I want to hear from you all. What do you think I should do?
