Food & Allergies in our classroom:

  • we are a nut-aware school. We have a few students with food allergies – please avoid sending in food items that may contain peanuts or tree nuts.

  • *HEALTHY & SAFETY PROTOCOLS outline the following:

– students are not permitted to share any food or drink items

– students will no longer be able to bring in birthday treats to share with classmates and teachers

– hallway water refill stations remain closed. Students can fill up their water bottles at the classroom sink

– “leave with what you brought” will pertain to all snack and lunch items to minimize landfill waste and traffic at trash, recycling and compost stations. All uneaten items, wrappers and containers (incl juice boxes) will be sent home at the end of each day.

Outdoor Learning and Westcoast Recess:

  • at Brentwood Park, we believe it is essential that children get outside throughout the day to breathe fresh air and get their bodies moving! We will be spending a lot of time outside this year learning and playing
  • living in Burnaby, we get a ton of rainfall – please ensure your child is dressed for the weather (raincoat, umbrella, rain boots) so they are comfortable, dry and can enjoy their time outside with their friends

Healthy snacks, lunches, and water bottles:

  • we encourage students to bring in healthy snacks and lunch items that will provide energy throughout the day. This helps students to focus and maintain creativity and critical thinking skills. To read more about sugar and healthy snack options for your child from Dieticians of Canada > click here
  • staying hydrated also helps to keep students focused- please ensure your child has a clean water bottle with them everyday. Students cannot use the bottle filling stations, but can fill their bottles with tap water in the classroom.

Thank you for your help and continued support!
