Dear Parents,

Today, we started off with students using Social Studies on the Fur Trade to take more notes and draw sketches for their upcoming mini project: The Trading Post. Students were able to read about the Fur Trade and some items commonly traded and get some ideas of how to draw these items. Then, I modeled making a bar graph again and students worked on Unit 7: Lesson 3: pages 263-265 #1-5. It is homework if students have not finished it in class. Students need to use a ruler for this.

Then, we had snack and recess.

After recess, we did our ADST challenge: Battle of the Boats. Students were in groups of 3 and had one piece of aluminum foil. They had 3 minutes to design their boat. Then, we tested them out one-by-one and tested how much weight each one could hold. Then, students had round 2 where they used the same piece of aluminum foil and made changes to their prototype. We reviewed the things we had learned about boats, floating, and surface area at the end and which boat shapes were most successful.

Following lunch, students started to draw out their Trading Posts and then we did planners and cleaned up.

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
