Dear Parents,

Today, we started with planning out our weekend journal. Students are writing about their favourite day of the year. They were instructed to pick just one day of the year, not multiple. Then, we brainstormed some reasons to support their favourite day choice. Students were then given the chance to fill out their outline to plan their writing, which they will be completing over the weekend.

After, we took up the Unit 1 Math Test for Patterning and went through some of the common mistakes. Following that, we started learning about Unit 2: Place Value and Whole Numbers. We talked about the following three forms and used a place value chart and base ten blocks to model.

Standard Form: regular number (392)

Expanded Form: 300 + 90 + 2

Written: three hundred ninety-two

No textbook homework, just an introduction to the Unit by doing some examples on the board.

After snack and recess, I read a bit of our novel, Animorphs to the class and then we went to visit our buddy class. Students worked with their little buddies on sequencing pictures of the pumpkin growth cycle and then read with their buddies. The students did such a wonderful job with their little buddies 🙂

After lunch, we worked on brainstorming our Future Plans and Dreams for our Autobiographies and also started to write the actual full sentences for our Introduction and Future Plans sections for our Autobiographies as well. If students are not done their introduction, it is for homework.

Then, we wrote our planners and students had free time in the classroom. In the middle of free time, we were called for our chance to pick pumpkins 🙂 It was raining, but still a fun time.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
