Hi Everyone,

Today, we started off by reading and then I asked students if they had any questions about the Math homework. I reiterated that it is very important for the students to voice their questions if they are having confusion. Then, we read a few chapters of “Wonder” and talked about it.

After that, I went over COMPATIBLE rounding – aka rounding to the nearest 10’s and 100’s. This may seem like a younger grade concept, but it gets more advanced when there are 5-digit numbers to know which digits to look at in rounding.

We reviewed this a number of times and then I gave students 5 dice in pairs. They needed to roll the dice to create a number and then round it to the nearest 10 and nearest hundred. They handed these in and I checked them during Music – the students did very well with this!

After, the students had Snack, Music, and outside time. When we came inside, students worked on their Social Studies projects and then we had a class meeting.

After lunch, we went to the library, where Ms. Z read the students a book on immigration – it was a story about a child who had immigrated and felt excluded because he did not know the language. It was beautiful when he ended up making friends with a girl who used hand gestures to communicate with and play with him.

After recess, we did our Daily 5 station work in groups. I started the book, “Holes” with the Orange Group.

Note:

-Today, I asked students to bring a t-shirt/long sleeve/dress/skirt that they will embroider. We will be starting our embroidery unit within the next two weeks, so students need to bring in one of those pieces of clothing to embroider. This will t ie into our living things, natural resources, and biomes unit as students will embroider items related to nature. This is the first year I am doing this and I am very excited. If you have any extra sewing needles that we could borrow or could be donated, I would greatly appreciate that. Still also looking for candy donations 🙂 Thank you for those who have donated 🙂

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
