This Week’s Activities – Letter Writing
Good Morning Div. 18 Families 🙂
This week we will have two Zoom meetings! One on Wednesday May 27th at 10:00 am like we have been doing every week, as well as a whole school assembly on Friday May 29th at 9:00 am. Both of these Zoom meetings are optional – attend if you can. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Wednesday! This week I am hoping we can practice our letter writing to send our thanks to Mr. Allan (Gary) for showing us his wolf sanctuary last week. We have written letters before to Santa Claus in the Winter time, so I am hoping that some of you remember a few of the tips and tricks. I hope you have fun with this week’s activities, and enjoy yourselves.
May 25th – 29th
Core Activities :
- Read 20 minutes daily – just as we would have every day in our classroom for Daily 5
- Read the assigned book in your Epic profile, and please try to answer the questions about that book. This will help me check everyone’s understanding of the stories they read – just like we do during Daily 5 in school when you ‘Read with Teacher’
- Journals: Write a letter to Mr. Allan to say ‘Thanks’ for showing us his wolf sanctuary. Here are some ideas for what you could include:
- What did you like the most?
- Do you have any questions you would like to ask?
- Did you learn anything new about wolves that you maybe didn’t know before?
- How did you feel when watching the wolves?
Remember to use the correct format for writing a letter. Here is an example to help you remember:
At the end of the week, I will send all the photos of our letters to Mr. Allan to thank him for showing us around the wolf sanctuary!
If you happened to miss our Zoom last week, I encourage you to still write a letter. You could write to a family member that you do not live with and miss, or to someone you would like to meet, or to a friend in our class even.
- Do the assigned activity on your Zorbit account
- Math Challenge:
- The number/answer is 99. What could the math question be?
Think of ten or more different math questions/problems that have an answer of 99.
Use words, pictures, numbers and symbols and addition or even subtraction if you are comfortable. Record all the questions on paper or using technology.
How are they the same? How are they different?
2. At the market, a banana costs $3, an apple is $1, an orange is $2, a watermelon is $6 and a container of strawberries is $5. What different combinations of fruit can you buy for $12? How will you share your solutions to this task?
Supplementary Activities :
- This week’s class Zoom meeting is on Wednesday May 27th at 10:00am – join if you can. The link will be posted on FreshGrade to remain private to only Div. 18.
- Taylor Park will be hosting a whole school assembly on Friday May 29th at 9:00 am. If you are able to, it will be a fun way to get the whole school together. The link to register can be found at https://taylorpark.burnabyschools.ca/event/celebration-of-learning-assembly-4/?instance_id=420
- If you are interested in learning more about wolves and their life cycle, here is a link to a collection on Epic Books! All about wolves : https://www.getepic.com/app/user-collection/157985?utm_source=t2t&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=collection&share=15473183640
- I have a book that shows us how to do guided drawings of many animals! Here are some of the pictures to show how to draw a few animals:
I drew a raccoon:
What will you draw?
- Move around – Invent your own brain break movement activity! Record a video of you doing a dance, stretch, song, or other activity to get your body moving and post it to your FreshGrade account. In our class we have often played ‘Mingle Mingle Mingle’ Charades and Simon Says.
- Try this game with a family member: Tape a piece of paper to a family member’s back, as well as to the wall. You will take a pencil or a marker and draw an image on the paper on your partner’s back. As you draw, your partner will try to copy the lines you have done onto the paper in front of them (taped to the wall) step by step. When you are finished, compare the drawings to see if they are similar 🙂 This can be used as another way to practice letters, spelling words and numbers too!
As always, do what you can and what you are comfortable with accomplishing. I am here to help if anyone needs it. A huge thank you to everyone who has sent in their writing from last week about Personal and Social Responsibility! It is much appreciated 🙂
