Wednesday’s Schedule

Good morning Division 5!

I am just pointing out that some of you are behind in submitting assignments on Teams. I was hoping to share our class slideshow in our class meeting tomorrow but am still waiting for many of these to come in. I understand that these times are tough for everyone, if there is a reason why you have not been able to hand in homework, please send me an email explaining your situation. You CAN hand these assignments in late.

I also want to avoid having you rush to finish each assignment, so I will be delegating more of your weekly work time to continue with these. Today you will notice the “work” part of your schedule is very similar to yesterday’s because I want you to spend more time on the letter assignment before rushing to hand it in. If you are not doing a little bit of work every day and leave it to the last minute, that is when you will start to feel overwhelmed, so try not to let that happen.

I wish it wasn’t this way, but we are all trying to learn during these times. Miss you all!

Tuesday’s Schedule

Hello everyone,

I know online learning is not everyone’s favorite thing… I know I am not a fan of “online teaching”, but it must be done. We have to always try our best and keep from having fixed mindsets by allowing them to grow and mature. If you are struggling, or having a hard time and need some one to one support, please reach out to me via email and I will block out 15 minutes from one of my school days just to connect with YOU! πŸ™‚

Here is today’s schedule. Note: I started another new assignment (Letters to yourselves) but it isn’t DUE until May 1st. Please only spend a max of 90 mins/day doing literacy and numeracy activities. This helps you space out the work and will make you more successful in the long run. Try not to get too overwhelmed. For the SEL activity, I included a link to a Headspace meditation video (they’ve really been helping me through these unknown times).

Have fun, and look for ways to be calm among this storm! <3

Friday’s Schedule

It was AMAZING to get to connect with so many of you in yesterday’s Team meeting. I was encouraged to see so many of you attend (22/28!) If you were in the meeting and haven’t filled in the online feedback form, I posted it to Teams under assignments. If you didn’t make it this time, we will meet again on Thursday April 23rd at 10:30 a.m. πŸ™‚

Here is today’s schedule. Please remember to upload assignments that are completed to our Teams page (don’t share through email as I cannot mark them that way). If you are still experiencing problems with this, send me an email and I will send an online student guide to you.

Thursday’s Schedule

Good morning class,

Today is the day we attempt to have a class meet up through Teams! I know we are all excited to hear from everyone, but please remember that if everyone is talking at once, no one will hear anything and we will all get frustrated. Please do say hello to Mrs. Suh, and then MUTE your microphones. I will give everyone who joins a chance to talk and share and ask questions but I need your support. See you at 10:30 a.m.!

Here is a link for today’s schedule:

Wednesday’s Schedule

Good Morning Division 5,

Instead of copy/paste, I am going to send you a direct link for today’s schedule which can also be found on Teams. Students remember:

  1. Log into O365 email every day (in case I have sent you something important) I have not heard from many of you. Ask your parent to email me if you cannot remember how to log into your O365 email
  2. Check this blog Daily (it is easy to access and will have your daily assignments on it). It is also another way for us to stay connected
  3. Log into Teams (it is an app in O356). This is where I am posting assignments (you have one due on Friday). This is also where you will submit work to be graded so it is important to check every day
  4. THURSDAY 10:30-11:30 a.m. is our first digital class meeting. Please wait until 10:30 (no earlier) and click the blue join button through Teams. Say hi and then mute your microphone so I can give you instructions. You can choose to have your camera on or off depending on your comfort level.

Here is the link for today’s homework:

Hello everyone,

I hope you all feel rested and relaxed after the long weekend because this week the workload is going to start to increase. Please make sure every day you do these things:

  5. I will also be available to connect and chat with the class via Teams every Thursday 10:30-11:30am in a vitual class meeting! For this to work, I need you to all make sure your microphones are muted so you can hear my directions for how we will make it work. Our Online Class TEAM is up!

Gooooood morning class,

Yesterday afternoon I activated your accounts in Microsoft Teams. πŸ™‚ You all probably received an invitation email in your Office 365 accounts. Click on that link and start getting familiar with the functions. This will take TIME (and unfortunately, I will not have many answers to your tech questions as I am learning about it myself)… google and YouTube are great places to go if you need step by step instructions for how to do something.

Question: how did your first assignment from the SEL challenge (posted yesterday) go? Who did you face time/video chat with? Did it make you feel any better? Did it make the person you called feel any better? Feel free to send me pictures of some of the things you’re doing in isolation (shout out to Victoria for the window hearts). OR post the pictures into the assignment I’ve set up on Teams (which by the way, isn’t sue until next week so don’t worry about it if you haven’t started yet.

That’s it for today! All you have to do is day 2 of the SEL chart, and start figuring out how Teams works.

***PRO TIP: use google chrome, and if a window pops up asking to run the program online or download the app, click download… it’s way easier that way***

ps: if you are celebrating a holiday over the weekend, I hope you can connect with your family members in some way to let them know you miss them… it’s hard not being together to celebrate but with today’s amazing technology, who says you can’t? HAVE A GREAT LONG WEEKEND!

<3 Mrs. Suh

Happy Wednesday!!

Hello all you kittens and cats, hope you are all staying busy and being helpful. My husband and I were able to go on a nice drive in the sunshine with the windows down yesterday… spring has definitely sprung! I know it is still very tempting to be outside all of the time, but remember to keep your distance from people who are not living with you and most importantly — wash your hands!

I am including a link that I’d like everyone to start today and continue for 4 weeks. Each day has an activity that focuses on your Social Emotional health or the health of others. They are unique ways to busy yourself and will help you process some of your big emotions you may be feeling right now. Please let me know if the link works or not. I have been working very hard to create a classroom through the Teams app on O365, but it’s not quite ready for me to activate it for everyone just yet… STAY TUNED!

Here’s the link: https://sd41.sharepoint.com/:b:/s/O365-Lakeview-Division5/EWh1U54vvqZGrXULjR-fiywBPY2qPM-0qqHyCdjD7XrAfw?e=JVUzrl

I sincerely miss each and every one of you. I think about our class all the time and can’t wait to connect with you all online sooooooooon.

Monday Reminders:

Hello Div 5,

  • I sent everyone an email today with some guidelines about emailing. Please read through it CAREFULLY as some of you are still using email like a chat room. Also, make sure you practice your techniques by emailing someone else (me, your parents, a friend etc).
  • Some of you forgot about using this link for up to 8 hrs of school work which should keep you busy until I am able to assign you work: https://www.openschool.bc.ca/keeplearning/
  • Remember you have recorded many of your passwords into your planners this year, please look there if you forgot them. Please reach out if you can’t remember a password. My email is: tamara.suh@burnabyschools.ca
  • EPIC is online now (and free from home until the end of the school year). I sent everyone a link to it in your O365 email
  • http://typing.com is also an excellent way to practice some skills while you wait for “normal” to come back. Just make sure your fingers are in the correct positions. Try some of the tests at the end of the unit to see if you need to go back and re-try some old lessons or if you can jump ahead.
  • Make sure you are HELPING out at home. Beds should be made, rooms should be tidy by the end of each day, meals can be prepped/cooked by YOU, floors can be swept/mopped/vacuumed, even tupperware can be sorted and oranized! Look for ways to keep yourself occupied during this pandemic.
  • Remember: I am available to help, but when it comes to technology, a lot of it I need YOU to tinker with and try to figure out as I am still learning myself. Even better: help one another! Some of you are much more advanced in using technology than me πŸ˜‰

ps: make sure you are LOGGING IN to your accounts so your work is saved and I can see that you’ve been working. Many of you have said you’ve logged into EPIC/Typing.com but when I go look, it says you haven’t logged on for months.

Have fun & enjoy the sunshine (remember to keep distancing),

Mrs. Suh
