Gingerbread Lane & Gingerbread Art
Today we had the opportunity to go downtown to Gingerbread Lane! We took the skytrain downtown and saw some super cool gingerbread creations and the biggest Christmas tree we’ve ever seen! When we got back to school we warmed up with some hot chocolate from Ms. Shen and we created our own gingerbread art! HUGE thank you all the parents who came with us and braved the rain and embraced the chaos.

67th Day of School
Today we enjoyed our 67th day of school! Of course Icy The Elf gave us so many fun activities to do throughout the day.
Art, Elves, Games, and More
We have been so busy in our classroom! We’ve been practicing for our song for the January assembly, making winter art, looking for Icy the Elf every morning, celebrating birthdays, and so much more! We only have 12 school days left and so much to do and learn.

Holiday Cheer
As a school, we’ve partnered with IAK (Intentional Acts of Kindness) to spread some holiday cheer. Every student in the school is drawing a picture or writing a message on a card so that it can be given to seniors who live at senior homes in our community and bring some joy during this upcoming holiday season.
Our class worked hard at drawing beautiful winter themed pictures!

Snow Globes and Glitter
Today we got our glitter out, picked out some colours, and made our own snow globes! We are ready for the holiday season in our classroom.

Skating!
We did it! We skated, we enjoyed, we fell, we laughed, and we smiled. Thank you all the parents who came and joined us and helped make this field trip possible! We are grateful for you!

Winter Art & Centres
Last week we learned some volleyball skills and got to practice throwing and bumping with a partner. Today we practiced our cutting skills and started on some winter art! We made little snow hills and triangle winter trees. After some art, we had centers and some of us built a huge train track! Ms. Shen loves trains because it helps us with our teamwork, problem solving skills, spacial awareness, and so much more!

What is UFLI?
“UFLI is a phonics curriculum that provides explicit and systematic instruction for early reading skills. The program is designed to help students develop foundational reading and spelling abilities by teaching them to decode words and use a structured, sequential approach to learning letter-sound relationships.”
Every morning in our class we practice new letter sounds, how to write them properly on a line, and how to spell and sound out words. We’re practicing how to slow down, listen to how many sounds there are in a word, and to write down every single sound we hear. We’ve also been practicing “heart words” like “the”, “is”, “said”, and more. These are words that cannot be sounded out and words that we need to remember in our heart. Practicing these skills have helped us slow down in our journal writing and allowed us to be better writers and readers!
