Observing energy in Shapeville, Zoom this afternoon, Parade tomorrow

If we define energy as the ability to do work, what are some sources of energy that you notice in Shapeville? Can you also connect the energy to the job or work being done. For example the sun is a source of energy and it is doing a few jobs in shapeville. What do you notice?

    The sun is a source of energy and it provides heat and light to Shapeville. It also provides energy that the plants and trees need to grow so that people can get oxygen and food then they can use that energy to do work, it is a cycle.
    The windmill is a source of energy and it provides electricity so the people in Shapeville have power in their houses.

    A garden = food energy
    sun= solar energy
    rain = growth energy
    water pump = pumping water
    wind mill = wind energy
    conveyor belt=moves hay
    close line =to dry close when wet and a pulley system

      Jazmyn, Thank you for this excellent list of observable sources of energy and the work that can be done with that energy. Great work!

    The source of energy is the sun. Plants need sun to grow. People need sun also to be healthy. The wind is a source of energy. It spins the windmill and make electricity. The manual pump is a source of energy too. Farmers can water the plants. People and animals need to drink water. Teeter totter is a source of energy. Children can have fun.

      Katherine, you provide a great list of sources of energy and what that energy provides for Shapeville. Excellent!

      Jeonghan, thank you for listing the wind mill and noting how it provides energy to Shapeville. Well done.

    The windmill provides wind energy and the sun gives the plant light so they can grow. And the seesaw provide momentum so kids can have fun on it.

      Tiana, you make a nice connection between the energy from the sun and how it gets to people. Great work!

    Wind energy is moving the windmill and it might be making electricity and it is drying the clothes on the clothesline. Kinetic energy is being used to make the seesaw go up and down and Mr.Shape is using kinetic energy to move the rock. The sun is giving energy to the plants and the plants are giving energy to the people as food. I think the conveyor belt might be electrical energy-see barn top right corner.

      Ben, thanks for making connections between the sources of energy and the jobs they are doing. Great!

    The sun’s energy is being used to help grow crops and dry the clothes. Wind energy is being used to turn the windmill and help dry the clothes. Kinetic energy is being used to push the seesaw, dig with a shovel and pump the water.

      Kiev, you are making very good connections between sources of energy and jobs being done. Great thinking!

    The sun makes the plants grow, the wind turns the windmill, people make the water come out of the pump.
