Those are both vary festive celebrations that are being celebrated at the same time this year, with Ramadan taking place on the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. And Vaisakhi is celebrated on the 13 or 14 of the peak of the harvest. Both having big gatherings and lots is singing dancing and marches of all sorts of beliefs can come and be apart of these beautiful religions. They are both very alike and they can also be very unique. As I stated before singing and dancing is something that takes place during these celebrations eating is something that is also a big part of all of this, even tho Ramadan is manly stared with a fast and Vaisakhi also known as Baisakhi is celebrated for only a couple of days, traditionally the food at the festival of Baisakhi is given at the end of the day while Ramadan ten food is distributed through the whole day. Going on a different track Ramadan is manly celebrated by Muslims while Vaisakhi is manly celebrated by Sikhis. But don’t get fooled by all the deference’s they are both very similar in the way that they both have a religious background and they both always are welcome for other people to come and enjoy the beauty of these festivals. Vaisakhi is a fairly young compared to Ramadan being a lot older with Vaisakhi being “made” in the late 15th century Ramadan started in 610 A.D. and both are very similar in the way that they are both for being very great full for there food and what they have. I would really like to thank ms. Panesar for teaching the class about all of these celebrations ans teaching us the intricacy of the religions all of the world, I hope you learned something from this and happy Ramadan and Vaisakhi :).

    Updated spelling version:
So the 2 holidays whatever my teacher is making me talk about are Ramadan and Vaisakhi lets learn the Similar and differences. The differences aka the more easier part is that they are celebrated by different religions Ramadan is by Islam people and Vaisakhi is by Sikdhist’s. Another differences is that these are celebrated in different “common” location’s Ramadan is in the Middleeast like the UAE, Iran, Iraq or countries that are mostly Muslim while Vaisakhi is mostly in Pnujab and places with mostly sikhism people obviously these also celebrate in other places like British Colombia, Usa, Japan etc so that’s one similarity. The most uncommon difference is their history (Obviously) The way Ramadan was formed is that a “real god” decided to tell Muhamed that he “is the real god and the other people are just a bunch of cucks” so then Muhamed came to a box where everyone likes to talk about their gods and said “your god’s are fake” and everyone was so pissed that he went to a new town and never came back and that is what Islam is formed and they may have took over some parts. Now for Sikhism some man and his friends started learning a faith that was quite different from Buddhism and Islam and then it formed in 1469 THE END. Ok with every religion there are different rules to follow, explaining everything would take too long as that would be me saying all the rules which i don’t want to type. so I’m gonna explain in this format

Ramadan you must fast 7 days a week from sunrise to sunset if you are over 12
    Pray 5 times a day
You should donate and give money to the poor
    Oh and visit the Mosque
We are like Jew’s no pork

Vaisakhi Believe in what should be believed right now
No meat because we respect them
Only love your spouse, wife or husband
    Don’t take drugs (Obviously)

Ok 1 more difference and Im done Hmmmmmmmm Oh I know let’s just do dates cause I’m out of idea’s Ramadan is celebrated on the 9th month of the islamic calendar while Vaisakhi is always celebrated on April 13th and 14th

Alright let’s just talk about similarities because I’M AWESOME first off these are all religious things “what does this mean” well they are “mostly celebrated” or only in some cases by that religion and that religion is also the one that takes it very seriously. Another similarity and one you probably noticed is that both can also be celebrated in April (well at least 1 can) Ramadan may take some time because it can occur well any month but hey if they can occur in April they can occur in April cool. Well similar to that difference and very similar to what the hell we are talking a boot they can occur in any country since all countries have at least a little bit of Muslim and Sikhist people they can all be celebrated and their are Mosque in some places as well. So they are fit in a relatively different type of religion which may affect them negatively but hey it is worldwide. Next difference which is well kind of sad is that these guys are being attacked by several White people after some events that happened especially Karen’s Just like Tommy and Ranboo burning George’s house because it looked “depressing.” Anyway. The final similarity I’m gonna “take down” (I don’t know why I said that) is that both holidays or religions have strict rules to follow if you don’t follow them you are not a that well at least for Ramadan because there were instants where they got arrested maybe Vaisakhi is calmer maybe I don’t know. Well I’m done now so bye

  3. alan6 says:

Hello my name is Alan and today I will be telling you about the differences and similarities between Ramadan and Vaisakhi. The differences between these to celebrations are. 1. people who celebrate Vaisakhi are usually Hindus and Sikhs, and people who celebrate Ramadan are mostly Muslim but because if you are Muslim or Hindu doesn’t mean that you have to celebrate Vaisakhi, or Ramadan. 2. While celebrating Ramadan you fast for a month, sunrise to sunset. But if you are pregnant or have health problems, then you wont have to fast sunrise to sunset for a month. But on the other hand, while celebrating Vaisakhi you do not need to fast, basically fasting is not required too celebrate Vaisakhi. 3. In Ramadan you have to study Qur’an, pray five times a day, then after that you go to the mosque, and inside the mosque you give money to the poor and give gifts. In Vaisakhi you are not allowed to eat any meat unless it has a mala symbol on the package, cannot cut any hair, you must only love your spouse, husband or wife and cannot smoke or use drugs. 4. Vaisakhi is celebrated because manly because of 2 things which is because of the harvest of the crops, and the second reason is because of the Khalsa (code of conduct) which basically are the 5 k’s shown in difference number 3. Ramadan is celebrated because Muslims believe that Ramadan teaches them to practice self discipline, self control, sacrifice and empathy to the people who don’t have much. 5. Vaisakhi was created in 1699 because the tenth Guru chose Vaisakhi as the occasion to transform into a family of soldier saints. But Ramadan was created a much longer time ago. Ramadan was created in 610 because Muslims believe that in A.D 610 the angel Gabriel appeared to prophet Muhammad and revealed to him the Qur’an.

    Now time for the similarities:

1 they are both celebrated on April. Well sometimes Ramadan is celebrated on April but most of the time they both are celebrated on April. Like both of them are celebrated on April 13th 2. both celebrations have dress codes that’s you have to follow like for example in Vaisakhi you cannot cut your hair, or like you have to wear a type of shorts. And in one you have to wear a dagger. 3. both celebrations are manly celebrated by there own culture, like for example in Ramadan it is mostly only celebrated by Muslims, and in Vaisakhi the celebrations are usually celebrated by Hindus, and Sikhs. But of course, as always anyone is welcome to do it. 4. Another reason that the two celebrations are similar is because both celebrations are both in some parts religious, like in Ramadan one of the reasons it is created is because of an angle called Gabriel. And in Vaisakhi it is a god called Guru. 5. and lastly both celebrations are from the same parts of the world like near Europe or India. That’s all from me, hope you enjoyed my blog post byeeeee. Thanks for watching. BY: Alan.

  4. kadin2 says:

Well, Ramadan and Vaisakhi are on the same day, but Vaisakhi only has two days and Ramadan is celebrating the holy month of worship and Vaisakhi is celebrating solar new year. Ramadan and Vaisakhi have different history’s Vaisakhi’s history is that it was formed because the ninth Sikh guru refused to be Islam and Ramadan’s history is that it was started because of an angel called Gabriel and he showed up to prophet Muhammad and give him the Quran the Islamic holy book. Ramadan has different rules than Vaisakhi Ramadan’s rule is that you cannot eat till dusk and dawn and the only time you can eat is called iftar and Vaisakhi they are against colonial rules and Vaisakhi’s rule is that you can’t eat meat unless it is Halal, and you can’t cut, your hair and you can’t use tobacco or any other drugs.

Ramadan and Vaisakhi celebrate all over the world and they pray in separate ways and they both cannot eat meat unless it is Halal and if you are wondering what halal is and basically, they hang the animal down and let the blood go dry and then they eat it and Vaisakhi and Ramadan both do it. Vaisakhi prays to give thanks to for a harvest for one good year to come to them. Ramadan prays for the forgiveness of any sin’s that they have done and on one of the last 10 nights they pray.

  5. vincent30 says:

Vaisakhi and Ramadan are two celebrations that are happening around this time in 2021. I will be explaining the differences and the similarities between both of these celebrations. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

People who celebrate Ramadan will fast during the day, but people don’t do that when they celebrate Vaisakhi. People who celebrate Vaisakhi will dance, but people will not dance during Ramadan. People eat a filling meal before dawn for Ramadan, but not for Vaisakhi. During Ramadan, people pray 5 times a day, but that doesn’t happen during Vaisakhi. Ramadan is a Muslim celebration, but Vaisakhi is a Sikh tradition.

During Ramadan people will pray, and people will pray during Vaisakhi as well. During Vaisakhi people will gather, people will also gather during Ramadan. During Ramadan people will eat nice food, people also do that during Vaisakhi. During Vaisakhi people will have big celebrations, people do that during Ramadan too. During Ramadan people will share with their community, that happens during Vaisakhi too.

  6. sho1 says:

I think the similar things between Vaisakhi’s and Ramadan’s celebration is delicious food, beautiful dance and beautiful colourful clothes, because Vaisakhi’s and Ramadan’s celebration is famous for food, dance and colourful cloth. Vaisakhi’s and Ramadan’s celebration’s dance is so smooth and beautiful, Vaisakhi’s and Ramadan’s celebration’s clothes are filled with amazing and beautiful art, and l heard Vaisakhi’s and Ramadan’s celebration’s food are delicious, also Vaisakhi’s and Ramadan’s celebration’s food looks really delicious. I think the difference things between Vaisakhi’s and Ramadan’s celebration is a things that they celebrates. Baisakhi is a important festival as the day marks the new spring year and also the formation of Khalsa Panth under the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, in 1699. This holiday is also known as Vaisakha Sankranti and celebrates the Solar new year, based on the. Hindu Vikram Samvat calendar
and Ramadan is celebrated as the month during which Muhammad received the initial revelations of the Quran, the holy book for Muslims. Muslims believe the Quran, the holy text of Islam, was given to Muhammad through God 1,400 years ago. Muhammad lived in Saudi Arabia and is considered the founder of Islam. So Vaisakhi celebrates a special day in calendar that we don’t usually use is this country, this calendar is called lunar calendar and it means a moon calendar. Ramadan celebrates a God.

  7. maya33 says:

As a child who can easily forget things, I don’t remember that much about Vaisakhi or Ramadan but doing this will hopefully help me remember these stuff that I’ve learned. For reasons for people to celebrate Vaisakhi can be for two reasons. Either for the harvest or for something called Khalsa. Khalsa is known to purify yourself with your faith and to become free. While in Ramadan, Muslims found all around the world and would celebrate mainly around 1 reason. To follow the preachings of their Prophet Muhammad and to practice their reigion from Islam. Although they are different, I find Khalsa and the reason for celebrating are both similar to how they would both purify on those days when they’re celebrated. In short, how they reason to celebrate it can also be because of their religeon. But even if they can both have a religion while they celebrate these things, it doesn’t mean that they’re traditions or rules are the same. In the rules of Vaisakhi, you must be truthful, see everyone as an equal (equality), meditation, charitable acts and standing up for justice. Those were the key points of being a part of Sikhism. And once being a part of Khalsa, you cannot cut your hair, exclude meat whenever you eat, you must be honest to your partner. You are also not allowed to do drugs such as cocaine, alcohol and the like. While in Ramadan, you must be able to fast for a month, cleanse yourself from their sins, how they must read the Qur’an and think wisely. You must be able to pray five times a day. You must also give out charity to those who need it. Just like Sikhism. I would say that the difference here would mainly be the fact that in Ramadan you would only do the fasting thing and exclude yourself from bad deeds only lasts for a month, while in Sikhism and being apart of Khalsa, you must do these things once you are a part of being a Sikh or a part of Khalsa. In the History of Ramadan, they listen to the teachings by their religion. By their prophet Muhammad and their holy book, the Qur’an. While in Vaisakhi, Sikhism began because the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind, made Khalsa. To cleanse Sikh warriors to help protect their religious rights with baptism. Although they both have some religion to their history, they both have different ways of how religion was shown in their histories. When you celebrate Vaisakhi, you must have a dress code that is made up with five K’s. Kesh, Kangha, Kara, Kirpan and Kacchera. In Ramadan you don’t really listen to a dress code. By some more research, it says that when you’re 14 years old, young Sikhs would now be able to become a part of Khalsa and study the Five K’s. So, I’m guessing that you can become a Sikh when you are around the age of 13 and under. But when you’re Muslim, you can be any age. Although when you celebrate Ramadan, you have to listen rule by rule for a month while when you’re in Khalsa you have to listen to every rule all the time, they still are very committed to these rules. Other things is how Muslims are not allowed to have pork just like how if you’re a Sikh or in Khalsa, you cannot eat meat. My last example to their similarities is that multiple people would congregate and worship and be more faithful like in a place like Mecca and Gurdwara. Mecca is known to be the most hosiest place in Islam from how Muhammad was born there. And how Gurdwara was a place to gather around and worship Sikhs.

    Contrast:

There are a lot of things that are different between Vaisakhi and Ramadan like Sikhism, Behavioral code, Dress code, land of 5 rivers, and Bhangra. Those are the differences between Vaisakhi and Ramadan.

    Compare:

There are also a lot of things that are similar between Vaisakhi and Ramadan but there’s one thing I really know is they both have meanings. They both celebrated by Muslims, they also can celebrate with friends and family, they also celebrated on the month of April.

Hi ms Panesar i dont really know but ive Tried my best.

  9. gordon says:

Vaisakhi and Ramadan, two similar but quite different celebrations. Like for example in both celebrations they pray, but they pray in different ways. But on the other hand, the different is that Ramadan is not celebrated in one day it is a month, but Vaisakhi is a one-day celebration. Another difference is that Vaisakhi is a celebration that there is one specific day, but Ramadan follows the Islamic Chalender, so it changes each year. Another difference is that Vaisakhi uses big parade, but Ramadan use big feat at the end of the day. One similarity is they both have requirement like I Ramadan you need to be fasting and in Vaisakhi you are not allowed to cut hair. Another one of the similarities are that both celebration has specific dress code. One difference is Ramadan is a religious holiday, but Vaisakhi lots of Indian that are not religious that celebrates Vaisakhi. Both celebrations are very big on food, but to be honest with you almost a celebration is like that. The last similarity is the there is a building that is used for both celebrations.

  10. vadym1 says:

Vaisakhi and Ramadan are 2 holidays which are celebrated by Islam people and others. They are quite similar in the way that they are celebrated at about the same time, but they are also different in a few ways.

A similarity in the 2 holidays is quite simple, the dates. They are both celebrated in the month of April. Vaisakhi is celebrated on April 13th but it’s a little bit different for Ramadan. Unlike Vaisakhi, Ramadan is NOT a one-day celebration. It’s a month-long holiday that starts on April 13th and ends all the way on May 12th.

Vaisakhi and Ramadan are also celebrated by different people. Vaisakhi is featured in Sikhism, Buddhism, and Hinduism, while Ramadan is only featured in Islam.

They’re celebrated in different ways as well. Vaisakhi is the harvest festival of Punjab, like a thanksgiving. It is celebrated by parades and lots of colorful clothing and dancing. As mentioned previously, it is a one-day festival. Ramadan, on the other hand, is completely different. It is a month-long festival and includes things such as fasting, which basically means you can’t eat anything from Dawn to Sunset. During this month, you also cannot swear, use any rude or offensive words, and engage in any form of sexual activity.

Both holidays involve praying, which is one of the main similarities between them. Praying in Vaisakhi is done anywhere in some form of gathering, but it’s often done in a temple on Ramadan.

Another similarity in both holidays is that they are both celebrated around India. Vaisakhi is celebrated in Punjab, and Ramadan is celebrated elsewhere.

Vaisakhi and Ramadan are both 2 holidays celebrated in India and have many similarities and differences.

  11. sandra8 says:

Similarities: This year, the two celebrations, Vaisakhi and Ramadan have been celebrated or began to be celebrated on the same day, April 13th. A similarity I have found was how both celebrations all strongly require the need of good acts and thoughts such as charity acts and avoiding negativity. This means bad wording, sinful behaviors, and sexual activities are all restricted. For me, this shows the belief in righteous in both of these two celebrations. Also, people who celebrate these celebrations both have strict dress codes. For example, both religions are restricted to wear tobaccos and other things that could cause harm to our bodies. Not only so, in both celebrations, people are to give help and support to those who are poor and are in need. Both celebrations contribute to charity acts and other kind acts. As you may know, Covid-19 had cancelled many events, and this includes Vaisakhi and Ramadan. In Surry they had to cancel the Vaisakhi Khalsa parade, and mosques were also closed during Ramadan in order to control the spread of Covid.

Difference: Different celebrations have different rules and conducts and have their own ways of doing things. For Ramadan the purpose of having such celebration is to improve their self-devotion and learning no matter what age, while on the other hand, Vaisakhi is celebrated for marking the season of harvest and for the tradition of Khalsa. Another difference is that when celebrating Ramadan, food and drinks are restricted while Vaisakhi which celebrates the harvest, have food accompanied during the festival. During Vaisakhi, people mostly thank the god for the harvest and pray for wealth and success for their future while, Ramadan pray for the respect to the god every once and then and for forgiveness for the sin they have committed (both pray for peace). Not only so, one of the Vaisakhi dress codes is Kachera, which means that you need to wear shorts/breeches during the festival while during Ramadan, the only requirement is to properly clothe yourself which means to not expose your body to others (better not to wear shorts) unless it is considered disrespect. Woman that celebrates Ramadan are told clearly and strongly to follow the Ramadan clothing rules before leaving their houses. The last difference I’ve found, while I was researching, was the different religions that participate in these two celebrations. Vaisakhi is mostly celebrated by the Sikh religion while Ramadan is highly scarce for those who are Muslim.

  12. tiya1 says:

Hey guys! Today I will be talking about the recent holidays and celebrations, Ramadan and Vasahki. They have a lot of similarities but, both of them still have perks of their own…
These two holidays both include selflessness and revolve around giving. For example, Vaisakhi (also known as Baisakhi) celebrations have a LOT of free food. No matter if your poor or wealthy Vasahki brings everyone together and makes sure that they will enjoy a meal together. This tradition is called langar. People who celebrate Ramadan are also encouraged to participate in selfless acts like giving money and food to charities and the poor to cleanse them of all impurities. Another similarity that these two holidays have is that some people who celebrate these holidays also believe in their religious aspects of Vaisakhi and Ramadan. For example, Vaskahi celebrates Guru Gobind Singh, a teacher (since guru means teacher), spiritual master, warrior, poet, and philosopher. Vaisakhi also celebrates the birth of Khalsa Sikhs which were made by Guru Gobind Singh. While Ramadan celebrates the five pillars of Islam. In Vaisakhi, Sikhs go to the Sikh temples which are also known as Gurdwara in the mornings. In Ramadan, people pray five times a day and also study the Qur’an. one other small similarity that Vaisakhi and Ramadan have is that it’s kind of a start to a new beginning. Vaisakhi marks a new year for Sikhs and fasting in Ramadan purifies you. Both holidays are celebrated not just in one place like Saudi Arabia and Punjab. But in other countries and continents too. For example, Ramadan is celebrated in South Africa, Egypt, Brazil and so much more.
While these holidays might have some similarities with each other they have their own special traditions too. One of the obvious differences that Ramadan and Vaisakhi have is that on Vaisakhi you don’t fast. In fact, you celebrate with food. On Ramadan food is restricted, dawn till dusk and then you can eat. Vaisakhi is celebrated because of the harvest of crops and the Khalsa. The Khalsa is basically a behavioral code that Sikhs must follow. It requires you to commit to meditation, equality, being selfless and pure and lastly standing up for what’s right. Ramadan is a holiday to reflect on yourself, worship, and be devoted. Ramadan teaches everyone to be selfless, empathetic, and have self-control. Vaisakhi always starts on April 13th or 14th but Ramadan follows the lunar calendar so it’s different every year and it can be in different seasons. In Vaisakhi, people dance in the celebrations. One commonly known dance that people participate in is Bhangra. While at Ramadan it mostly consists of only eating (which I’m not complaining about). On Ramadan, people enjoy eating dates, shorba, kibbe, keema samosa, kebabs, and soo much more. On Vaisakhi food such as Dal makhani, Makke ki roti and- my stomach is grumbling… In conclusion, both of these holidays have a lot of similarities and differences, and I’m hungry now so goodbye! Hope you enjoyed!

    Contrast
    1. Ramadan is celebrated by Muslims, while Vaisakhi is celebrated by Sikhs. The two religions might grow side by side, but the two is different and unique in their own ways.
    2. While Ramadan is a time to celebrate Quran, the prophet Muhammad, and self improvement, Vaisakhi is celebrating the harvest and the Khalsa. Vaisakhi is the new year to Sikhs.
    3. Since Ramadan follows the lunar calendar, the date can verify. However Vaisakhi is always on April 13th to 14th.
    4. During Ramadan people fast from dust to dawn, during Vaisakhi people feast morning to night.
    5. Vaisakhi is more about looking into the new year, while Ramadan is looking back into the past.
    Compare
    1. Both of the celebrations make people think of becoming a better person. The both includes thinking of how to contribute to the community.
    2. Both of the religion have strict rules that people have to follow during the time period.
    3. During both celebrations people have to visit temples.
    4. Both celebrations includes feasting and celebrating time with others (friends, family, etc.)
    5. Both celebrations is full of people wearing different colours and happiness fills the air.

I really enjoy learning about different religions. I’ve realized that even through i don’t believe in any religion i find it truly beautiful of how different religions view the world. I am happy to learn about these two beautiful and amusing celebrations and really hope to be able to attended one of those parades and feasts in vancouver next year. Thank you Ms. Panesar for teaching us about Vaisakhi and Ramadan.

  14. april7 says:

Vaisakhi and Ramadan are two very intriguing and unique holidays that have similarities, as well as differences. To start off, similarity wise, both Ramadan and Vaisakhi have a religious aspect to them. For Ramadan, that includes reading the Qur’an, fasting, praying, and more. For Vaisakhi, one of the reasons it’s celebrated is because of The Khalsa, which is the more religious reason. The Khalsa (Pure) is basically the purified Sikh community established by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. Another thing they have in common is the fact that during both holidays, places of worship are visited. During the month of Ramadan, mosques (Muslim places of worship) are visited. Similarly, in Vaisakhi, gurdwaras (Sikh places of worship) are also visited.

Another resemblance both Ramadan and Vaisakhi hold are that the dates of these two holidays vary each year. Ramadan follows the Islamic calendar, which is lunar, so that essentially means that it follows the lunar cycle. While Vaisakhi’s date doesn’t have a change as big as Ramadan’s, it does still have a variation. Vaisakhi falls on either April 13th or 14th. During both Ramadan and Vaisakhi, acts of charity are done. During the month of Ramadan, money is often given to the poor. In Vaisakhi, Dāna (charity) is done. One final aspect both holidays share is that they both have special foods that are eaten. As an example, Kadhi, and Meethe Peeley Chawal are two of the foods that are eaten during Vaisakhi, and during Ramadan, dates, and Shorba are often consumed. Now that we’re done comparing them, let’s move onto the differences. While they are similar in some ways, Ramadan and Vaisakhi are very different as well. One difference is that Ramadan lasts for an entire month, while Vaisakhi only lasts for a day.

Another difference is that during the month of Ramadan, Muslims have to fast. So, this means they are prohibited from eating, drinking, swearing and many other things from dawn to dusk. Vaisakhi on the other hand, does not require Sikhs to not drink or eat during daylight. One tradition that Vaisakhi has that Ramadan does not have is the dances. For example, during Vaisakhi, a dance called the Bhangra or Gidda is often performed. Another difference is when Ramadan ends, it is celebrated with Eid al-Fitr, or “Feast of Fast-Breaking.” As you may expect, Vaisakhi doesn’t have a celebration for the end of it, as it only lasts for a day. Finally, last but not least, Vaisakhi is not only celebrated because of The Khalsa, but also because of the harvest, while Ramadan is mainly celebrated due to religious reasons. This concludes the five similarities, and differences between the two holidays. But no matter how different or similar they are, they are definitely two very special holidays.

  15. mattias12 says:

There are many similarities and differences between Ramadan and Vaisakhi.
Ramadan and Vaisakhi both have traditional clothing that they wear, they also have a religion along with tradition in it. They both have unique art and designs to clothing. They also have traditional foods that they eat when they celebrate. Both Ramadan and Vaisakhi have varied dates each year because of the calendars they follow.

There are also many differences that Ramadan and Vaisakhi have. Ramadan follows the islamic calendar which is lunar, meaning it follows the cycle of the moon, whereas vaisakhi follows the Hindu Vikram Samvat calendar. Ramadan is celebrated by Muslims while Vaisakhi is celebrated by Hindus and Sikhs. Vaisakhi celebrates the beginning of the Hindu solar year unlike Ramadan which is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Ramadan has more of a religion in it while Vaisakhi is celebrated for the harvest of crops.

  16. mary5 says:

April 13th, which was two days ago, Ramadan and Vaisakhi were coincidently celebrated on the same day of the year. This unexpected coincidence brings them to start off a similarity. One more thing they share in common is that they both will worship during the celebrations. Muslims worship in places called “Mosques,” while for example, there’s a Sikh temple called “Gurdwara,” for Sikhism people to worship. Another thing that’s similar is the way that they act. During Ramadan, Muslims do a thing called “Fasting.” Fasting is a type of behaviour that Muslims must follow during Ramadan, it is told by the rules and teachings of the Qur’an. When Fasting, they try to do good acts like, refraining from bad thoughts/actions, no swearing, giving money to the poor, giving gifts, not eating for a period of time, etc. During Vaisakhi, the Sikhism people have to follow a type of behaviour as well. It’s called the Khalsa, which is a Behavioural Code. The four requirements are, no eating meat, no cutting hair, only having one lover, and not using anything that could be bad for the body (alcohol, etc.). One other similarity is that they’re both a festival, where people worship, pray, and celebrate/honour for what they believe in. The last similarity that they have is that they both try to good acts like giving money to charity/less unfortunate.

Moving on to their differences. Probably the most important difference between them is that they’re celebrated by different religions. Ramadan is celebrated by Muslims (Islam), while Vaisakhi is celebrated by the different religions in India (Sikhism, Hinduism, Buddhism). Sadly, some people assume that people who wear turbans are all Indians. Another difference they have is when they’re celebrated. Although this year is a year when both celebrations start on the same day, but it doesn’t occur all the time. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which means that it follows the moon phases, and the time of the celebration changes every year. While for Vaisakhi, this celebration is most likely celebrated on April 13th or 14th. Some other difference is why the two celebrations are celebrated. Vaisakhi is celebrated because of the harvest of the crops, and also because of (religious reason) Khalsa. While for Ramadan, it is a time of self-improvement, spiritual reflection, empathy for the people who are less fortunate, etc. Another difference is when these celebrations were created. Vaisakhi was created in 1699, while Ramadan was created 1,400 years ago when Allah spoke to Muhammad. The last difference is that During Ramadan, Muslims will study more for the Qur’an. As for the People who celebrate Vaisakhi, they don’t believe in the Qur’an which means they don’t have to study for it.

  17. aumi1 says:

First, let’s talk briefly about both events.

Vaisakhi is celebrated for 2 reasons: harvesting the crops which were plowed during the winter, and for a more religious reason: the Khalsa. The word Khalsa itself means to be pure. The tradition of Khalsa was created by Guru Gobind Singh, in 1699. The Khalsa generally addresses a community which believes in Sikhism. Vaisakhi is also celebrated to recognize the forming of the Khalsa Panth. The Khalsa contains 5 rules, which are known as the 5 Ks. These are: 1) Kesh, which is uncut hair, 2) Kara, a steel bracelet, 3) Kanga, a wooden comb, 4) Kaccha, which are short breeches (essentially shorts) and 5) Kirpan, which is a steel sword. Vaisakhi is also celebrated to mark the Solar new year. Sikh temples are known as gurdwaras, and the holy book of Sikhism is the Guru Granth Sahib.

Ramadan is a month inside of the Islamic calendar, which is based off moon cycles. Therefore, the date of Ramadan always changes each year. Ramadan is believed to be celebrated on the day that Allah, which is Arabic for God, talked to the prophet Muhammad, who wrote down Allah’s words. The words that Muhammad wrote down then became the Quran, the religious text of Islam. This date is known to be “The Holiest Night.” The exact date is unknown but believed to be on an odd-numbered day during the last 10 days of the month Ramadan. During Ramadan, one should maintain clean thoughts and actions as per the holy Quran, and should also fast for 30 days (whenever possible) from dawn to dusk. The prophet Muhammad was known to break his fasts by eating dates, so dates are eaten to break fasts to this day. After the 30 days of fasting, there is a big feast known as Eid-al Fitr.

    Differences:

One difference between the 2 holidays is that Vaisakhi is usually celebrated on the 13th (sometimes on the 14th) of April, as it follows the Solar calendar. Ramadan, however, follows the Islamic calendar, which is based off the moon’s cycles, and only has 354/5 days instead of the 365 days the Solar calendar has. Thus, the first day of the month of Ramadan changes each year.

Another difference is the reason for the celebration. Ramadan is always celebrated for a religious reason – when the prophet Muhammad transferred Allah’s words to what is now known as the holy Quran. Vaisakhi is sometimes celebrated for a religious reason, too, the reason being the formation of the Khalsa, but it is also celebrated for the harvest of crops and the Solar new year.

These two holidays are also mainly celebrated by different cultures – Vaisakhi is usually celebrated by people with a Sikh or Punjabi Hindu background, and Ramadan is usually celebrated by people who are Muslim. Obviously, these two holidays are celebrated all over the world by many different people and many different religions, too, but are mainly celebrated by Sikhs, Punjabi Hindus, and Muslims.

The 4th difference I found between these holidays is that in Ramadan there is a fast, while in Vaisakhi, there is a feast. These two are practically opposites. In a fast, you don’t eat food or drink any type of liquid, including water, from dawn to dusk, and in a feast, you can eat and drink anything you want as much as your heart desires. In Vaisakhi, fasting also does not happen.

In Vaisakhi, people often visit gurdwaras, and in Ramadan, people visit mosques instead. In both places, prayers are offered, but in mosques, the Quran is revered, and in gurdwaras, the Guru Granth Sahib is. Both of these are the holy books of the respective religions.

    Similarities:

One of many similarities between Ramadan and Vaisakhi is how both events originated from inside of Asia. Ramadan was first celebrated in Saudi Arabia, located within Southwest Asia, and Vaisakhi was first celebrated in Punjab, in India.

These two events, Ramadan and Vaisakhi, during this year, both started on the same date: April 13th. However, next year, Ramadan will occur on a different date, as the date of Ramadan changes each year.

Both culminate in a feast: Ramadan ends with Eid-al Fitr, and Vaisakhi involves feasting as well.

Both festivals are celebrated by meeting with friends and family. In Eid-al Fitr, everyone gets together and has a humongous feast with each other and enjoys the food and company, and in Vaisakhi the same thing happens, but with more people, as it is sometimes celebrated as a parade as well.

In both events there is gift-giving. In both Islam and Sikhism, it is part of their religion to be generous and give gifts: in Sikhism, it is part of the Khalsa, and in Islam it is one of the five pillars.

I have learned a lot of similarities and differences between Ramadan and Vaisakhi. Here are some similarities. First these celebrations are celebrated by at least some Indians. Second this year in 2021 both celebrations are celebrated on April 13 or 14. Third both celebrations have restrictions when celebrating it.. Fourth these celebrations have large parades. And finally fith both celebrations people celebrated are not allowed to eat pork products.
Now onto some differences. First Ramadan lasts 30 days while Vaisakhi lasts a day. Second Ramadan is celebrated by Muslim people while Vaisakhi is an Indian holiday celebrated by Sihks. Third people fast in Ramadan which means they don’t eat from dawn to dusk but Vaisakhi people do not. Fourth people that celebrates Ramadan pray 5 times a day while Vaisakhi do other things. And finally the fith Vasakhi has 2 names the other is called Basakhi while Ramadan only has 1.
Overall I learned a lot between these 2 celebrations and to be honest I would survive celebrating Ramadan nor Vaisakhi.

Vaisakhi is a harvest festival celebrated all around the Punjab region. Vaisakhi is celebrated by Sikhs, Buddhists, and Hindus.

Ramadan is a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. Ramadan is celebrated by Muslims.

Vaisakhi and Ramadan two different but also similar celebrations.

Both celebrations are similar as both religious groups pray during this time. Vaisakhi Sikhs visit a Gurdwara (Sikh temple) and pray, during Ramadan Muslims go the Mosque to pray.

Each group also give gifts to each other (they give them to friends, cousins etc.). There is also no smoking and use of tobacco allowed during these times.

Both events are celebrated during the same time each year, that is April 13th and 14th and both religious groups follow the teachings of their own religion and both have specific duties (three for Sikhs and five for Muslims) and both religions believe that there is one creator.

Both also have differences such as, during Ramadan Muslims do not eat or drink every day for a month from dawn to sunset (sawn or fasting). During Vaisakhi there is no fasting.

In addition, for Muslims sawn is a duty however for Sikhs, Hindus, and Buddhists this is not a duty and Ramadan last for a month (sawn), but Vaisakhi is celebrated on one day.

Vaisakhi – is a spring harvest festival Ramadan – while Ramadan is celebrated to follow the teachings of Islam.

At the end of Ramadan there is a three-day celebration called Eid al-Fitr however, Vaisakhi is celebrated on the day and represents the start of the Hindu new year.

Hey broski. We started learning about Ramadan and Vaisakhi about a week ago now, and I have already gained a lot of knowledge about the two celebrations. Some of the things about them that piqued my interest is that both have extremely strict rules while people practice them. For example, when someone practices Ramadan, they must fast from dawn till dusk, and with Vaisakhi, you you can only love your partner. With all jokes aside, a strict rule for Vaisakhi is that you cannot cut your hair, so people sometimes use head coverings. Ramadan is celebrated in a month long period, and at the end they have a three day festival called Eid al-Fitr. It consists of large feasts with families, sometimes people give gifts, and there are often fireworks. Vaisakhi is not the same though. Vaisakhi is a one day celebration, that is celebrated on either April 13th or 14th, and is celebrated by Sikh people, Hindu people, and Buddhists, but I will only be focusing on Sikh people. One of the key values of Sikhism is purity and truth, and that ties together to one of the rules during Ramadan stating that you cannot swear, at least to some extent. During the holy month of Ramadan, you are advised not to wear anything that does not cover your knees, and it is similar to Vaisakhi for having a dress code. Something that Vaisakhi allows that Ramadan does not is that during Ramadan, you cannot show your intimacy with anyone, for example, you cannot kiss your loved one. And in the Sikh religion, you are only allowed to love your loved one, so you can express your intimacy with that person. In Sikhism, you are forbidden to eat any meat, while muslims are forbidden to eat pork, so they are similar, but different in that context. The two faiths of Islam and Sikhism are very commonly discriminated against. Part of that being 911. When 911 occurred, everybody thought that it was Muslims that coordinated it, so a lot of people including white supremacists called people that they thought were Muslim terrorists, but most of the time they weren’t actually Muslim, and sometimes Sikh. Yes, we are getting better at not assuming things like this, but there still needs to be a lot change in order to completely demolish prejudice towards muslims and the other religions that have been targeted. One thing that look very similar about the two religions in my opinion, are the mosques muslims go to to pray at, and the Gurdwaras Sikh people go to pray at. I’m definitely not saying they are the same in the sense of what people do there and how they do it, I’m just talking about the architecture. The last thing I want to go into more detail about is the head coverings used in both religions. In Sikhism, people that follow the five K’s wear a turban to cover the hair, because one of the five K’s states you are not allowed to cut your hair. A dastār is very commonly used for Sikh people as well. It represents equality, honour, self-respect, courage, spirituality, and piety. The Qur’an, the Islamic holy book, instructs that women wear a hijab, although most Muslim women or girls that I know do not wear one. That just about wraps up my blog post. Happy Ramadan and Vaisakhi to those who celebrate either one of them!

Vaisakhi and Ramadan can be mistaken for the same festival and while they have their similarities, they are 2 completely different holidays. The people who celebrate Ramadan and Vaisakhi have similar religions, but they are different. The main religions of people who celebrate the religious part of Ramadan and/or Vaisakhi are Hindus and Sikhs for Vaisakhi and Islam’s celebrate Ramadan, in all these religions, people believe in a god or gods. Another similarity is that Islam has 5 pillars that they must follow and the Sikhs that have been baptized into the Khalsa have to follow the behavioural code. The 2 holidays also celebrate selfless serving and giving to the poor, so overall being kind to others around them, they both show this through actions like sharing food or giving gifts to others. In both Vaisakhi and Ramadan, they spend at least some of the day worshiping, for Vaisakhi, Sikhs go to the gurdwara to worship and for Ramadan, Islam’s pray and study the Quraan periodically during the day. They are celebrated similarly in the sense that the activities they partake in are quite like each other, for example, there are parades for both occasions (for Ramadan it would be near the end during Eid al Fitr) as well as feasts.

However, Vaisakhi and Ramadan are also different, the reasons for each holiday are not like each other, Vaisakhi is to celebrate the harvest of crops and the Khalsa while for the most part, Ramadan is less to celebrate but to cleanse themselves of impurities or/and to learn more about the Quraan as well as to become more spiritual. There is celebrating in Ramadan but a large part of it is to learn. In a way, Ramadan is more religious than Vaisakhi is, a large part of Ramadan is fasting which is an important part of the Islamic religion and is even one of the five pillars. Vaisakhi is also a religious holiday (to some) but it seems a bit more open to the public and more people take part in the celebrations while during Ramadan, not a lot of people who are not religious take part in the fasting. Another way that Vaisakhi is more “open” is that more than one religion widely celebrates Vaisakhi while Ramadan only has only religion that considers Ramadan one of their large holidays. To focus on the religious parts of the 2 occasions, Ramadan celebrates the time that God gave the prophet Muhammad the first part of the Quraan while Vaisakhi celebrates the birth of the Sikh faith. To look at the other side of celebrating, which is the festivities itself, Ramadan for the majority is about the feasts after sunset because Islamic people fast to celebrate and they eat at night which makes their meals at night more important. But while Vaisakhi does have food, it is not more about the food but the parades hymns and dances, this year, those who celebrate Vaisakhi will take a hit because of COVID not allowing them to do most of the celebrations they would usually do.

So, to conclude all that has been said, these 2 holidays have their similarities but also, their differences, whether that is a religious difference or diverse ways to celebrate. Even though these events happen near the same time, does not mean they are celebrated by the same people or are the same holiday.

When I compared and contrasted Vaisaka and Ramadan, both used a temple as a place to worship but differences were the temples meaning as gurdwara means a place to worship for Sikhs, but mosque means a place to worship for Muslim. Not only this but the mosque has one key feature which is a mosque has a minaret on it (usually at least one) which is a long tower. The second comparisons and contrasts are that both has a holy book used and said in but the use of them is different as Vaisakhi’s Guru Granth Sahib (which is the holy book) used as singing while the Quran is used for reading and gaining knowledge. Its a small comparison but both Vaisakhi and Ramadan have a word that means God as in Ramadan, there is Allah which means God and in Ramadan there is Guru Nanak which is a god. A difference between the two holidays is in Ramadan, it’s much more used to reflect while in Vaisakhi its more of a party for the day of harvest. (idk if its 5 compares and contras) what I think about the holidays is even if they can be different both holidays still are a nice holiday that celebrate their own religion. mmmmm i have terrible memoryz

    Comparing Ramadan and Vaisakhi

1.Ramadan is celebrated ninth month of the Islamic calendar it is the ninth mouth is because the Islamic calendar follows the moon phases, so it changes every year, but Vaisakhi is celebrated on 13 or the 14 day (about 2 weeks) of April, so this is some different things about Ramadan and Vaisakhi.

2.People honor Ramadan by fasting or going without food or water for a certain time during the month, they can only eat one meal they eat it each morning for about one mouth that is call the sahoor. people honor Vaisakhi by visiting the gurdwara, gurdwara is a place that you can go to worship, and wear colorful tradition clothes or singing, and dancing, take part in the parade through the streets, so this is some different things about Ramadan and Vaisakhi.

    3. Ramadan traditions first pray five times a day they can pray at homes, offices, and mosques second no bad thoughts and words or actions, third give thing to the poor like money. Vaisakhi traditions first do Prayers where Sikhs will visit places of worship called Gudwaras, and lifting the nisan sahib flag, so this is some things different about Ramadan and Vaisakhi.

4 Ramadan rules Muslim people must dress like covering the head with scarf/hijab. Vaisakhi rules are kesh that means uncut hair, kangha means a wooden comb for doing the hair, kara means an iron bracelet, Kachera means a 100%cotton tie able undergarment that must not be elastic, kirpan means an iron dagger large enough with, so this is some things different about Ramadan and Vaisakhi.

5 Ramadan’s language is different because they speak Arabic, but Vaisakhi speak Punjabi it is different because of the writing is different and the way you speak it is different and the way we hear it is different, and how learn it is different, so this is some stuff different about ramada and Vaisakhi.

Thing that is same about Ramadan and Vaisakhi

1 Ramadan and Vaisakhi both have two or more names like Ramadan had five name the names are Ramazan, Ramzan, Ramadhan or Ramathan, and Ramadan. Vaisakhi has two names the names are Baisakhi and Vaisakhi, so this is some same thing about Ramadan and Vaisakhi.

2 Ramadan have their own Calander it is calling the Islamic calendar, and Vaisakhi have their own Calander too it is called the Hindu Vikram Samvat calendar, and they both use it for celebrating their celebration like the Vaisakhi use it for celebrating the solar new year based of their calendar, and the Ramadan people use it for the world-wide fasting celebration, so this is some things that are the same.

3 Ramdan and Vaisakhi type is both religious because there they all believe in something and practice something, and practice behavior pray moral writing their own language text reading some books about their history learning about their gods’ spiritual elements, so this is something that are same about Ramadan and Vaisakhi.

4 Ramadan and Vaisakhi when they are celebrating, they give out unbelievably delicious food for free like in Vancouver people go there to celebrate talk to friends eat and enjoy and they all have big fests and being with your family having fun, so this is some things that is fun and the same about Ramadan and Vaisakhi.

5 Ramadan and Vaisakhi both do dances like drum, dance, wearing their cultures cloths and other interments, so this are the same with Ramadan and Vaisakhi.

    BLOG POST

Vaisakhi and Ramadan are very similar yet very different. I am a Muslim who celebrates Ramadan every year and if you’re wondering what it is well, you’re in luck because I know everything about it for example during Ramadan Muslims around the world fast, pray, read the Qur’an, give money to the poor, and much more and it is also a very religious celebration. It is a month-long celebration but enough about Ramadan let’s talk about Vaisakhi, Vaisakhi is a celebration celebrated by Sikhs and Hindu’s. They celebrate this festival because they mark this as the season of the harvest, and it is a one-day celebration there is one of the differences between Vaisakhi and Ramadan, Ramadan is one month long yet Vaisakhi is only one day. They are also both more of a religious celebration they both wear certain clothing to celebrate this festival. Muslims and Sikhs have a certain place where they pray Muslim’s call their place of prayer a mosque and Sikhs call theirs a gurdwara. As I mentioned earlier in Ramadan we fast and at the end of the day there is a huge amount of food from a long day of fasting and during Vaisakhi there is a ton of food different foods but all of the food for both celebrations is amazing. Vaisakhi is always in April but for Ramadan we follow the lunar calendar, so it changes every year so some years it’s in summer others it’s in winter.

Hello, my names Marko and I’m going to be talking about Ramadan and Vaisakhi first thing I would compare about the two is that They are both celebrated on the 9th month in April also they both wear turban/Punjab. Also, they both do gatherings and they both make art. The last thing Ramadan and Vaisakhi have in common is that they both pray for like Vaisakhi pray for being able to harvest and wishing for a good harvest to come. They both are very similar so it was easy to find similarities but lets see if its easy to see the differences.
Hi now I will be talking about the differences between Vaisakhi and Ramadan. In Ramadan you fast but in Vaisakhi you have a fest and eat food. And share food. During Ramadan the crime rates drops but during Vaisakhi they don’t really steal but some people just take too much of the food then leave so yeah. Also, I don’t know if this one is true, but Vaisakhi is the people who didn’t convert to Islam, but Ramadan is part of the Islam culture. Vaisakhi is a river festival but Ramadan is a festival for the day to moon.
