Learning in the Spirit of Wonder and Joy

Month: December 2020

A sense of wonder

Welcome back!

When  we go walking, what do you see?

When you go walking, what do you hear?

When you go walking, what do you feel?

Here are some books and songs that I hope will

inspire your walks throughout the season…

Well it seems I have not got a handle on this new computer!

I believed I was putting all these books on the blog?

It turns out any new book takes over the last I have read.

I am so very sorry, but these are wonderful books you could

take out from the library and read.

I will do my best to get this figured out for next year!

Truly Ms. Trish

Great ideas and important information from Anita

v  I just read that we can expect a snowy winter later in the season – which of course made me think of DYI snow globes. There are a few things you’ll need;

o   Empty jar with a snug lid

o   Small figurine (your little one will know just the thing)

o   Glitter/sequins/beads

o   Super glue or hot glue gun (just for the big people to use)

o   Water

o   Glycerine (optional – but will make the glitter stay floating up longer)

With careful direction from your little of where and how to glue the figure onto the inside of the lid, the adults will do their best. Have your little one scoop some glitter/sequins/beads in the empty jar and then add water, about ¾ full. Add a tsp of glycerine (if you like), pop the lid on and shake! Easy peasy. If you’d like some visuals on how to create these lovely crafts – check out here.

v  Burnaby Family Life’s popular programs for parents, caregivers and children are constantly adapted to meet changing safety requirements set by the Provincial Health Officer. As we get through the pandemic, they continue to bring ideas, inspiration and solutions in support of growth and healthy development of families and children.  Please join then for a range of online parenting and family resource programs. For more information and to pre register please click here: https://bflgrowscommunity.org/

v  The Power of Play – Book a Wednesday morning one-on-one play session with me, Anita – Enjoy a private play space with your little one as I coach and model child-led play, establishing healthy boundaries, turn taking and so much more with parents/caregivers and their child. v  I can’t believe it’s December 1st already! If your family has particular traditions you celebrate over the winter break they may look and feel a little different this year – but that doesn’t mean you can’t make new ones! Check out these holiday traditions from The Parenting Place Blog that will keep your family safe, healthy and entertained over the holidays!

v  Check out the attached poster from The Primary Care Network, The City of Burnaby, Burnaby Inter-Agency Council, Burnaby Intercultural Planning Table and Burnaby Public Library filled with great resources in Burnaby for folks who may be needing a little extra support during the pandemic. Questions about the Rent Bank, worries and concerns, emergency shelter and more. If you know someone who needs support pass this poster along!

v  Cameray Child and Family Services always has a great calendar of programing for families and young children – check out the attached calendar for their December programs.
